Tackling the Summer Situation!!

How to Keep Your Skin and Hair Looking and Feeling Great!!!

Summer is brilliant for lots of things, but having sweaty skin and greasy hair is not so great!
Maintaining a beauty regime throughout those hotter days is essential to keeping your skin clear and your hair looking healthy.
There are some absolute ‘must-dos’ during Summer if you really want to look and feel amazing.

You may not be familiar with them all, but there are hundreds of tips that will make you feel fresher during the summer months. It is important to take these on board if you want to look like a total babe during the holidays!

Skin Care
Taking care of your skin can be challenging, especially when hormones are flying around, ruining your gorgeous looking skin, it usually happens at times when you could do without it - what a pain!
Here are the best ways in which you can look after your skin this summer:

ALWAYS Drink Water -Water hydrates the skin and gives it a youthful and clear texture. Our skin is constructed with cells that are all made up of water. Therefore without topping up your body with more water, the skin cells will eventually stop functioning as well as they could be, causing a breakout. Although drinking water is essential, directly applying water to your skin is also essential. Direct contact will allow the water to get into your pores and clear out any dirt or bad germs.                                                                      One of the other problems many women struggle with is cellulite and stretch marks, the intake of water will fill out those skin cells and help to push out the cellulite and other marks.

Skin Type - Everyone’s skin is different, you can either have dry, oily or combination skin. It is vital that you know your skin type before you go out and buy products as most products will highlight the type of skin they are made for, so you should always go for the correctly matched ones. The thing you should not do is use a product designed for dry skin if you have oily skin, as this can encourage your skin to produce more oil - you don’t want that!

Exfoliate - Our skin cells can be easily damaged through the buildup of dirt, make-up and other environmental factors. Therefore you should exfoliate the skin as regularly as possible, this will essentially mean that you are getting rid of the dead skin cells before they can gain more bacteria.  The methods of exfoliation and how regularly you should do it depends on the skin type. Following this however, you should not exfoliate every day, this can cause the skin to become irritated, red and patchy. You can purchase a wide range of products to use during exfoliation, you should use a product that is natural and is going to get deep into your pores in order to remove bacteria. Exfoliation scrubs require you to use specifically designed gloves to physically scrub it into your skin cells. There is also the choice of skin peels which are ideal for those with oily skin, as these can remove any excess oil from the T-zone.

Freshening Up - Daily routines are important to your skin because your skin will begin getting used to the way you treat it. If you discover dark circles around your eyes in the morning, you need to decrease the darkness - without cheating by applying concealer! If you need to reduce black bags, apply hot green tea bags to the eyes, the natural elements in the tea will freshen up your eyes.                                                                  The next stage to freshening up is using a green tea based toner and cotton pads to get dirt from your pores. You should apply pressure around the face in a circular motion and you will see any removed bacteria on your cotton pad. You should do this every morning before applying makeup, otherwise you are building bacteria straight into your skin cells.

Try to remember to eat fruit throughout the day and eventually this will pay off and your skin will remain youthful and gorgeous!

Hair

The summer weather makes our hair sometimes appear too dry or too greasy, women can have many problems with their hair - especially in the summer. It may seem impossible to get that typical shiny hair effect like all the models on TV adverts, however, our tips prove that it is achievable.

Hair dye - The biggest issue so many of us share is the thinning of our hair or the way it looks ‘dead’ after dying our hair so much. The most obvious way to avoid this is simple - stop dying it, but I understand that this can’t always be an option. It is always advisable to avoid peroxide at all costs, this is the number one chemical of killing a person’s hair! Many hair dyes now contain natural colourants that will moisturise the hair without chemically damaging it.

Washing your hair - The biggest mistake you can make is getting into the habit of washing your hair every day. Doing this will wash away all of the natural oils produced by scalp, causing your head to produce an excess amount each day. With an excess amount of oil, your hair will look greasy more regularly, making it shiny but for all the wrong reasons!                              Aim to thoroughly wash your hair every two days in a warm to cool temperature of water to avoid heat damage. Use a good shampoo and conditioner that will benefit your scalp and hair type then rub it until it covers your entire head. After rubbing the products into your scalp, make sure to wash ALL of it out, it can be easy to rush it and leave product in the hair giving it a greasy appearance. One way to avoid the greasy feel, is to wash with a blast of cold water directly onto your roots, this will make your hair look glossy and flawless.

Heat protection - Heat can damage your hair and make it dry and lifeless. To avoid this, use hair protectant spray before you blow dry it and wear a hat or a bandanna in hot weather. This simple step is sure to decrease the chances of permanent hair damage.

These tips promise to make you feel and look good this summer. Make sure you follow them all to get soft skin and silky smooth hair!

My favorite Summer Blushes - Peaches and Corals

Summer makeup is all about 'sorbet' colors. Its all about bringing color to your face and enhancing or faking your tan (please do not get tanned under the sun. Its not natural. Its dangerous). Summer makeup is given special emphasis in a lot of countries that face strong and severe winters and this is the best way to get rid of the wintry paleness and get a glow back.

If not pinks or roses, your best friends are oranges and peaches and corals. I am not a huge fan of orange blushes as they scare me (I feel that a bright orange blush could emphasize the blueness of the skin instead of hiding it), I love to have apricots and peaches and corals in my vanity to uplift my client's complexions (LOL). So here are 4 of my favorite blushes in this category...........

My Favorite Summer Blushes - Roses and Pinks

I must say that I am a crazy blush hoarder and I just love blushes. Blushes can do magical things to uplift the complexion, create that 'desired' healthy flush whenever you want it and balance the makeup by being a bridge between your eye makeup and lip makeup. Its a perfect complexion enhancer and an easy way to create that radiant look.

I love pinks and peaches for Spring and Summer. Use them alone or pair them with a bronzer and you've the most amazing summery glow. In this article I am going to talk about my favorite pink and rose toned blushes....so lets have a look.......

Review : Clinique All About Eyes Quad - Jenna's Essentials

Today I am reviewing my favorite Clinique eyeshadow quad called Jenna's Essentials, a lovely quad of the most basic eyeshadows inspired and named after Clinique's Global Artist Expert, Jenna Menard. I am so happy to see Clinique concentrating on makeup and on the new ideas inoculated by the brand after realizing the potential of the color market and bringing in dermatologist developed and approved brand of allergy tested and 100% fragrance free cosmetics.

I purchased mine from the Shopper Stop at Juhu for 2150 INR for 4.8 gms as it was almost out of stock everywhere. Jenna's Essentials happens to be an everyday palette with some very quintessential and basic colors for any beginner to step in the world of makeup. So lets have a look at this beautiful essential quad....................................

The Makeup that lasted long!!!

(This is one of my favorite looks for Summer from the house of Dior for Summer 2014. It may not wearable but its adorable and I can imagine how sizzling it would look. Its just a pictorial representation and has got nothing to do with the article. I shall be doing the look break up in the Rapid Fire Makeup Article series that will start again.)

Summers have arrived and the heat is scorching and killing me already. Its 'hot' beyond hot this time and its just the beginning of April. There are 2 entire months of heated torture and I am waiting for rains very desperately. LOL. To think about makeup in such heated conditions is to only expect a huge melt down on the face and to erase the sweat tracks on the cheeks with a tissue.

This is not what I expect from my makeup...So this year I thought of making the makeup almost invincible. A makeup that would last and live upto 4 hrs in the scary climatic conditions outside. A makeup that is almost sweat (water) resistant and can be pulled by most of the ladies out there. This is a makeup look I tried on my mother (who doesn't wear any makeup) on a Sunday afternoon (when she wanted to go for a wedding) and she was flabbergasted to see that little makeup lasting through the entire day. Since the wedding was indoors on a scorching Sunday afternoon, I am proud to announce that her makeup really lasted well and she did dab the excess sweat with tissue as per my instructions and it was a miracle. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture but I can share what I did.

Let's see the waterproofing in a step by step manner............

My Makeup WISH LIST

People have been buying from Sephora left-right-center and I am the one who is brooding on the fact that I cannot lay my hands on anything (also translates as no money, bankruptcy and no one to get the products). This article is for those who want to shop from Sephora and may have missed some quirky and lovely products. These products are from the most visited 'What's new' section of Sephora and look quite interesting albeit customer reviews.

Lancome Dream Tone - A Beautiful Skin Naturally

I had to publish this PR note (and some more interesting ones) since I am using this product and I can't tell you how lovely it is. Still on the samples of no.02 and soon shall open the bottle for reviewing.

“A truly beautiful complexion is without marks or blemishes, is perfectly even, and radiates health.  It is completely free from imperfections, and this type of skin is one that women are happy to show make-up free. Radiant, perfect skin says something about who we are and serves as a message to the outside world. It is a direct reflection of our inner well-being and balance - and brings confidence to our everyday lives. For all these reasons, skin quality is something important for almost all women, of all ages, of all skin types, all over the world.

The options to achieve perfect skin are many. Anti spots or anti-redness skincare, brightening skincare, BB creams, CC creams, foundations... Products that hover between skincare and makeup, that enhance the skin with a beautifully natural result, but with the very real drawback that the result is rarely complete and most of the time fleeting.

Staying ahead of the curve regarding women’s expectations in beauty is important for us, and, with this in mind, now once again, Lancôme creates the opportunity for a departure in the habits and beauty rituals of women all over the world. A unique and comprehensive response to the universal desire for beautiful skin, an everyday treatment creating a skin finish that is natural and that really lasts: we’ve called it DreamTone.

Based on important scientific discoveries on pigmentation made by our research teams, and deployed in 3-page turning formulas, the exclusive Triple Action Technology in DreamTone provides the answer to the desire for beautiful skin. It’s the first bespoke, all-round, pigment corrector that acts on both dark spots, the lack of uniformity and colour irregularities, on the three great pigmentation profiles identified by the occidental world. Attributed with nine patents, DreamTone’s 3 exclusive formulas show previously unrecorded levels of performance, metamorphosing the skin, revealing its natural beauty and developing a quality to the skin that women hitherto had only dreamed of.

With DreamTone, Lancôme opens up a new era in cosmetics: the skin of dreams, naturally, without make-up."

Do-It-Yourself Spring Makeup 2014

Every year Fashion Makeup Maestros and makeup brands predict the seasonal trends. Even Pantone makes the 'Color of the Year' which is Radiant Orchid and has already been used (and abused) by a lot of people till date. Pro Makeup Brands like MAC talk about futuristic trends that can be adapted in daily lives (imagine 'Androgyny') and amazing people like Pat McGrath, Charlotte Tilbury, Tom Pecheux, Lisa Eldridge, Lucia Pieroni, Diane Kendal etc. making some of the most incredible models for some amazing designers in the latest of the Spring collections.

In all this pell mell and too much of fashion exposure, a common day to day woman (and some men who do makeup for livelihood) suffer. On the makeup counters, SAs are compelled to promote such looks without any understanding and conscience (a strong word to say). What do 'WE' learn out of this? Nothing...SO its important to incorporate these trends and makeup ourselves feel happy thence the term DIY. Whatever is written in this article is a for a common wo(man) who wants to prep her makeup wardrobe and update herself to look the best for Spring and Summer of 2104. These are the trends which she makes for herself. Please remember no one would hang you for not applying a certain lipstick. Its about how 'comfortable' you are.

Here are a few Spring-Summer Makeup tips which I feel would look good one most of them. I have no problem if anyone wants to follow specific trends...its their makeup freedom...my intentions are to help someone if they need it. Lets have a look......

Quick REVIEW - Guerlain L'Instant D'Un Soupir and Guerlain L'Instant D'Un Baiser

These are 2 fabulous single eyeshadows that I picked from Guerlain a few months back and thought of quickly writing a review for it. This is a quick quick quick review and I shall be doing looks with these beautiful eyeshadows soon.

Ombre Eclat 1 Shade aka Single eyeshadows are beautiful glowing shimmery single eyeshadows that can be used to highlight, accent, define and smoke out on the eyes and give an incredible finish and a mesmerizing effect when used. They have some incredible shades that range from highlighting shades to defining and contouring colors. Each shade is fabulously pigmented and the amount of product provided is huge for the price that has to paid.

Lets have a look at 2 of my favorite shades - L'Instant D'Un Soupir and L'Instant D'Un Baiser....

Review : Urban Decay Naked 3 Eyeshadow Palette

Its NAKED 3 from Urban Decay!!! With such a huge recognition for their 'Naked' franchise, Google may not call this word an 'Adult' term any more (I believe). I must thank the amazing Shivani Chedda of OMUK for getting this beautiful palette that makes flesh toned eyeshadows so wearable.

Naked 3 is a palette made from romantic rosy and purple toned eyeshadows that take the experience of naked eyeshadows to a newer level. With so many copycats that UD had, no one really thought of making a palette like this (not even NYX I believe). With a different twist to the utterly famous and quintessential Naked and Naked 2 palettes, this is something very very interesting to look at.

So lets see what Naked 3 palette is all about and lets see whether we can find some dupes in the previous versions....

Review : Sisley Phyto Lip Star in 05 - Shiny Ruby

I must say that this is one of the most expensive glosses I own, at the beginning of the review itself. LOL. Sisley cosmetics is such an amazing brand with such strong roots, such divine (and expensive) products, such beautiful textures and such innovative products. Sisley do make colors too. Limited but ultra luxe and ultra modern.

Today I shall be reviewing the divine Phyto lip Star Lip gloss in Shiny Ruby. With high mirrored shine yet weightlessness of a feather, this is indeed a gloss of our generation. Its amazing beyond comparison and a definite must buy if you have a penchant for high end cosmetics.

So lets have a look at what makes Phyto lip star such an amazing product.........

Review : Clinique Fresh Bloom All Over Color in Almond Blossom

If you have read my review on the Peony Blend, you'd have gauged on what a big fan I am!!  These products are just so perfect.

I had got all the three Fresh Blooms with a big plan in my head. To use them on different skin tones and make each and everyone whom I meet, start glowing. Like magic! And this is what happened. The new formulation is very alluring and so finely milled that it gives a creamy glow on the face rather than a powdery frosty face. It just imparts the perfect glow and would never look overdone even after layering the highlighters.

So lets have a look at my second favorite - Clinique Fresh Bloom All Over Color in Almond Blossom........

My favorite MAKEUP PRIMERS

This has been one of the most 'asked' questions and one of the most important decisions to make for your makeup kit. A primer is such an important step and is considered as one of the bridges between your skin care and makeup regimes to get that flawless complexion. A daily moisturizer with sunscreen itself is a great priming agent (since they have the same silicones) but an additional primer adds to the longevity of the makeup very very efficiently. A primer is the first step of your makeup routine wherever and whenever you do makeup.

I believe the makeup primers were inspired from 'paints' especially wall paints. To increase the longevity of the paint and to make it weather proof, painters use 'primers' in between the rough surfaced wall and the paint that has to be applied. A makeup primer does a similar job. It helps the paint (foundation/makeup products) adhere better to the skin, helps resurface the skin texture, helps improve the longevity and wear of the makeup products on the skin and so many more. With the addition of a sunscreen, Vit. A,C,E, Salicylic acid, Hyaluronic Acid and other anti ageing and skin nourishing agents, Primers have evolved a lot and thus become an integral part of modern makeup. Now a days primers also contain color correcting agents and target various skin concerns. Hydrating and Illuminating primers help take care of dry skins.

Its quite an intelligent concept and very well thought of and executed in the modern world of makeup.

Primers primers primers everywhere. Each brand has one to offer and I have my favorites.

So lets have a look..........

Beauty Traveller Diaries - Missing in Action

I want to really apologize to all for missing in action (very badly). My blog was in a mess!! Thanks to the combined efforts of my remembering prowess and the pandemonium that Cloudflare created, I am happy that I could resuscitate my blog. Unfortunately my maternal grand pa passed away on 11th March night due to old age and cardio respiratory arrest and my mother lost her only parent.

I have a lot of posts in the line up, lots of photography to be done, lots of editing happening and need lots of energy for that. So please do bear with me in these trying times and support the blog.

Thanks a lot!!!

The Makeup That Lasts..........

As a professional makeup artist I have always been asked this question at many times - during a makeup job, at work, while shopping, in a bridal dressing room....almost everywhere. The question is 'How do I make my makeup last longer?' Trust me, everyone has this question to ask and everyone have their answers and ways to make it last long.

Beauty is expanding its horizons almost everyday and there's not a day where I have not learnt something new. To make your makeup last long is the easiest thing to do these days - provided you invest in the right makeup products and right formulations. For an Indian climate which is perennially hot and humid (at least in the Metro where I stay) its not an easy task to keep the makeup lasting longer. Especially when you have a day job which demands travelling and yet looking beautiful and presentable.

I would like to give my answer to this 'long lasting' business and lets see if you agree? I would love your inputs too...Let me tell you what I do for myself and my clients (its subject to change with time)....

The Makeup Wish List - March 2014

Sincere apologies for the MIA. Its been a roller coaster time again and everyday passes by being either busy with bridals, makeup shopping which I haven't stopped yet and the days of excessive slumbering due to being tired and trying to resist the ever changing unstable environment.

I have a wish list for March 2014. Its not like its incomplete, but there are certain products that I want to own in my kit subsequently. Btw a big hug to staff at the Chanel Palladium Store. I got two Le Stylo pencils from them which were as hard as pumice stone and had to return them and they took it back. Who does such an amazing service these days. Chanel knows to keep their regular clients happy (not to forget the amazing Chanel pouch I got on Valentine's Day).

So here's the wish list..............

Quick Review - MAC Nocturnals Pigment Sets

Just thought of doing a quick review of these amazing pigments from MAC. Buy these are most of you would be sorted forever as they would never go empty. In fact these could be passed on as ancestral items. LOL.
MAC Nocturnals seem to be the best thing happening to a makeup artist especially. The pigments are so versatile and amp up any look (which you would be seeing soon) and they add those finishing touches one need for a 'completed makeup look'. How amazing is that!!! For those who may not know I am selling pigments in small jars (not these ones though) and would love to pass on one if you ask for it. (350 INR per jar - limited time).

So coming to the NOCTURNAL Pigments. I bought 3 sets, each for 2400 and looks like my life is sorted. They have a lot of these famous MAC colors and some not so great but always included ones (like Kitchmas) but nevertheless these are to die for..........

Lets have a quick look..............

Incredible Hulk...oops I meant 'Incredible Haul'

I was on a spree....makeup shopping spree. You need to roll your products in the vanity and start adding and subtracting. Plus you'd need a lot of products to review on the blog and make those scintillating looks that everyone loves. I had a great chance to grab some interesting products from Guerlain, Chanel and of course not to forget my beloved MAC pigments.

And then MAC launched their NOCTURNALS collection today and triggered my shopping bug again. These pigments are so amazing and cannot be missed. A bridal must have, I had to pick them up and of course some more utilities.

So lets have a look at what all I got.....Keep your 'Oxygen' ready....

Review : Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in 24 Karat Shimmer Brick

I don't know how much I can explain of my love for Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks. I own a few of them and since this post was the next one in line up I thought of quickly writing a review for it. Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks are one of the most coveted products in the market. The shimmer is incredibly beautiful, highlights the face contours amazingly well and the skin looks satiny and silky with light bouncing in all directions.

Lets have a detailed look......................

Review : Shiseido Ibuki Starter Kit - Quick Review

Novel approaches in Skin care and some groundbreaking technologies is what I look at when 'Shiseido' comes to mind. Whether its their high quality skin care or their extremely exuberant makeup range, there is something quirky and unique about Shiseido. When their 'Ibuki' range entered the Indian market silently, I had hopes of finding something very interesting and something unique in their approach towards skin care. Who said that the possibilities in skin care innovation have stopped? Japanese people don't feel so and they are not afraid to share their ideas and experiences with the rest of the world.

So what's Ibuki all about? Ibuki means 'breath' in Japanese. This is an anti-ageing line targeted at 20-30 yrs age women (and men too) {lets call them 20-30 yrs humans} and is made to ward off the signs of environmental aggressors, reinforce the skin's protective lipid barrier and 'teach the cells to retain their shape and resist damage', thus making the skin look healthy and supple. I would not understand what 'imperfections' they are targeting but surely they make the skin feel supple and resilient. Do not forget to read Paula's review HERE. But let not the opinions affect your decisions as these are personal opinions of one particular person and should not affect others. Remember Knowledge Vs Propaganda

I wanted to start with a basic skin care regimen to see whether it suits me and since it does I thought of writing about it. Lets have a look.............

Review : Clinique Fresh Bloom All Over Color in Peony Blend

I have been a great fan of Clinique's Fresh Bloom All Over Color blushes. Its been ages that I have used these and they give that much coveted 'glow' I am known for (spilled a secret). Its my staple for bridals, fashion shoots and so much of work and I love them for the subtle glow that is imparted. When a bride wants a soft radiant glow or a photographer asks for an innocent magical skin, this is my usual weapon of choice.

I broke the previous blush in of the makeup jobs and my heart was shattered. So I went to Clinique and I was in smithereens when they told me that it's discontinued. But the ray of hope was the 'BLENDS' that they have brought in and I found a miracle. Felt like Harry Potter who achieved the Elder wand from Voldemort!! (LOL). This is a better version of the magic I was looking for.

NOTE - Please note that I have shot this pictures in a lower resolution to show you the exact color of the blush. This does not compensate with the quality of photo and this is done purposefully.

Lets have a look, how Clinique Fresh Bloom in Peony blend is so magical.........

My Valentine's Day Haul!!

I was my own Valentine today....And had a blast. Its fun and its good to love yourself. That way you don't have to bother breakups and after effects. I had a blast at Chanel where I tried their foundations and powders and enlightened myself. I also have done a nice small film on the new Clarins store that has opened in Palladium (which is beautiful and has that French touch) and I am going to put it all soon. I was also able to bag a beautiful Chanel Illusion D'Ombre in Impulsion which is no longer available. I wanted it so badly and thus got it...

So lets see what's there and what's not there in the picture............
