Review: Huda Beauty Desert Dusk Palette

The rich heritage of the Middle East, the opulence of the Arabs and the culture and makeup of the oasis, Huda Beauty launched their 'next' most coveted palette called the Desert Dusk. The romantic arabian nights and the scintillating arabian days are what embodies this palette and its just so stunning. Huda Kattan, the cosmetic entrepreneur behind these amazing products truly knows how to make a woman look beguiling and beautiful.

I took the photos from my beloved iPhone 8 plus and cannot believe how DSLR like finish I have got with it. Really commendable and very amazing.

Lets have a further look..................And yes it feels good to be back again!!!

Urban Decay Cosmetics Nocturnal Shadow Box

Urban Decay Nocturnal Shadow Box
Urban Decay cosmetics did launch another amazing product. I love when a brand marries functionality with glamour. Urban decay is known for making such easy palettes that have everything you need to look amazing in a jiffy. With the Nocturnal Shadow Box you end up getting best of all worlds. Indeed a complete palette.

Btw I’ve chosen the iPhone 8 plus as my platform to write my blog with the Blogger app so it may not be the best interface to write information. But it’s ok I guess. It saves me from doing too much of work on the laptop and I can write at my own leisure.

Review : MAC Full Coverage Foundation

Today I am going to review a MAC foundation (after the longest time). I have no grudges with MAC foundations but I don't generally end up going to their store to pick up a foundation that necessarily. People have spoken quite a lot about 2 MAC foundations that are almost eternally blessed in the world of beauty and makeup artistry i.e the FACE and BODY foundation and which we are seeing today, the Full Coverage Foundation.

Full coverage foundation has taken its place in the MAC PRO store, thanks to their catering to professional makeup artists who need a bit more of stuff than the regular makeup users. The PRO makeup artists look for products that are easy to use, malleable according to the professional needs and a product that serves for a long time (so that it eases the constant visits to makeup stores for replenishment). I believe MAC Full coverage foundation is not very talked about these days (maybe due to the less frequent availability) but I have not seen a big makeup artist who hasn't talked about it.

Lets see what is this Full Coverage foundation is about.....................

Review : Chanel COCO CODE Harmonie De Blush

Chanel launches their amazing SPRING 2017 collection in the starting of the new YEAR with a big bang! What a great start! I have always been a bit smitten with their limited editions although I am not lucky enough to buy them at times (they wipe of the shelves very fast), or sometimes they do not perform well or at times they are so beautiful that I would not have the heart to use them. Isn't the last one insane?

Well Harmonie de blush concepts are not new to me. I have always had them in various brands and this is one another exhilarating one. So lets see what is it all about.......................

Review: Tarte Color Wheel Amazonian Clay Blush Palette

Yayyy is what I shall begin with, as an ode to all the blush lovers across the world!! Tarte is so well known for their pretty Amazonian clay blushes that add from whisper of color to a complete vibrancy of a blushed impact on the face. I heart this palette so much and thence the review of the Tarte Color Wheel Amazonian Clay Blush palette. Its long lasting and a perfect combination of pinks, berries, oranges and tawny tones with a dash of highlighters thrown in. This was a holiday set that I procured from a store in Mumbai called Beautiful that tends to sell international brands in India.

For those who may be very new to Tarte, they are a high performance naturals brands that is cruelty free, mostly eco friendly and deliver amazing results with the use of skin safe and good quality ingredients at an almost cruelty free price. They have acquired the clay from the Amazon basin which is known for its healing properties and made products out of it. What a brilliant idea!!

So lets see more about this Color wheel........

Get the Look!! Shakti Mohan

Pic Courtesy

Shakti Mohan
Photography by Munjal Gandhi
Styled by Saachi Vijaywargia
Makeup by Neeraj Navare
Hair by Anita Shil

What we thought for Shakti Mohan was a simple classic look that is decadent and very contemporary and imparts a positive glow. The skin is healthy and fresh, the eyes are wider and opened up and the whole look is serene and does justice to her beautiful black dress.

I did the makeup (as usual) and kept it clean and fresh which is quite quintessential part of my routine works with Shakti. With looks like these we plan to reintroduce the makeup that worships skin. And of course, the image is edited to fit into the categorical requirements of professional photography, so its not in my hands to make it completely real and I hope there is no question aroused against it.

Lets have a look at a step to step makeup breakup.......

Product watch : Sephora and the makeup palette chronicles

Whoever knows me or has worked with me once at least and who are reading my blog for a while would know my love and penchant for palettes is like another level of gluttony. And its not any less this time. While I have been missing in action I did buy a lot of palettes during my sojourns and did a lot of ordering from friends and at this store in Bandra and Andheri called Beautiful. They are my all time destinations to splurge all the hard earned money and it feels so divinely satisfying to me and my clients both.

This times' palettes are simply stunning and I am fortunate to be owning a couple of them while I am sharing this. The reviews should hopefully follow as I have already thrown the packaging and used most of the products on my beloved celebrity clients. Lets have a quick look.....

The Perfect Smokey Eye Liner

Hello Beautiful People,

Wish you a very very Happy New year and I hope and pray that we have this as another memorable year in our lives. As per a norm of every year start I have made a couple of resolutions and one is for a makeup practice that I am striving to inculcate this year.

Image may contain: 1 person, closeup
(Elli Avram by Vivan Bhathena Photography and Makeup by Neeraj Navare)

"Say NO to dramatic feline flick eye liners (until asked for or required in the profession) and embrace the hypnotic smokey eye liners".

You see that there is literally no difference in what I am saying but when you do it you realize that there is no defined sharpness and a beautiful blur and smokiness to the eye liner which makes it very seductive and extremely easy to do. So if you are a feline flick dyslexic then I guess you would love to start the year with this smokey eye liner. Btw, I feel so proud and elated to put the pics of my work to elaborate the facts that I am talking about (unless otherwise specified).

Lets see some easy steps to achieve this............

Quick Review : Smashbox Masterclass Palette in Lighting Theory

(Image courtesy - Musings of a Muse)

Smashbox is one brand that is consistent in providing best of quality products that would cater to a lot of professionals while making it compact and simple to all what one makeup professional would require in his/her palette. I have owned a lot of their palettes as they are extremely convenient to use and prefer this brand over many when it comes to amazing quality, price and the variety of shades present.

While having a lot of other Smashbox palettes, I couldn't resist laying my hands on the Sephora Fall 2016 Smashbox Master Class Lighting Theory palette. A complete addition to my kit on the days when I don't want to use too many products or tight on luggage carrying. They have considered a professional makeup artist and a makeup aficionado's makeup demands alike and made a palette that could cater to a variety of makeup fields. Mesmerising!!!

So lets have a look at this amazing palette........

Review : NARS Narsissist Cheek Studio Palette

OK!! I maybe late in getting this palette, it being a holiday edition and a Sephora Exclusive and I am surprised to the core as I got it in April (of course, at the local Beautiful store in Andheri and they only had one piece). It was lying in one corner, snugly and nicely and no one seemed to have paid an extra attention to this amazing palette. I did, btw!!

So here I present, a quick and smart review on this HOLIDAY palette by NARS called the NARSsissist Cheek Studio Palette, which is still available at Sephora. I saw it on my trip to Abu Dhabi but their conversion scared me. It was a whopping 7200 INR and trust me, Middle East would be one of the last places on my list to shop from.

Let me tell the price here itself. It costed me 4200 INR at Beautiful store in Andheri and on Sephora website, the price is 42$ (and I know I paid more but nothing in comparison to what I saw in Abu Dhabi). Thats the link CLICK HERE.

Have a look.............

Review : Clinique Lid Pop Eyeshadow in Petal Pop

In their 'POP' range of bright colors, Clinique is reinventing amazing formulations and have expanded from their line of amazingly pigmented blushes to some scintillating eyeshadow colors. Clinique has become one of my go-to brands these days as they have upped the mark and have created immensely fun but very highly professional grade products that cater to a variety of jobs. For me the makeup product should be visually satisfying too, which is why I love this dahlia embossing on the eyeshadow and it makes me happy all the time when I use the product.

I picked up 2 shades from the Clinique Inorbit Mall, Malad, Mumbai store and shall be reviewing them separately (just to make another article).

So beautiful are these shades and the patterns are so alluring.............lets have a look at what I got...

Model Makeup - Male

Its always a greater privilege and fun to work with my brother Mayank. He is a model and actor and we have some creative fun at his shoots. I am always asked on how to do makeup for guys and I have always featured Mayank on the blog as he's one of the nicest faces to work on.

I am on a hunt to get the best and the most sheer HD products that give a second skin effect and yet keep the look flawless and seamless. In this article I shall be featuring my newest purchase which is the FACE IT FOUNDATION by Makeup Studio Netherlands.

Lets have a look at everything that I am saying and mean to say....

Classy Makeups - Brigitte Bardot Inspired

Quintessential #smokeyeye #nudelip with #OharaMalavida #ftvtalenthouse #munjalgandhiphotography #naturalskin #softmakeup #highlights

Today after a long missing in action I am back with a classic post on how to achieve that beautiful Brigitte Bardot inspired makeup look on one of my favorite talented model Ohara Malavida of the FTV Talent House (agency). This photograph is by Munjal Gandhi and of course the makeup is by ME.

Brigitte Bardot was known for her classic dark sooty smokey eyes and a nude beige mouth. Her makeup style was revolutionary and now is considered as one of the most iconic and inspired looks. One must note that we did makeup as the inspiration and not the famous Bardot boufant.

Lets see some steps to achieve this look. Please note that the pic is photoshopped and edited but the essence of the makeup is almost unaltered.

Model Makeup : Karen Fleischmann

Photography by Shardul Navare
Styling by Munjal Gandhi
Model - Karen Fleischmann from Switzerland
Makeup by Neeraj Navare for Beauty Traveller
Hair by Sanky Evrus

It was such fun shooting with the amazing dream team and one of my favorite models Karen Fleischmann. She is so beautiful, effervescent and has an amazing complexion thanks to her Philipino and European genes. Not only Karen is a thorough professional but she is also a beautiful person to talk to and to work with.

In this post I shall be posting the 1st look that we did for the photoshoot. This look encapsulates the 'true Karen' and is a complete no makeup look which of course does need a lot of makeup to achieve. The flesh tone colors and shades were used for creating a naturally enhanced complexion and we have done minimal editing and corrections as the shooting camera is very HD and can accentuate all the features in a dramatic way.

Lets see what products were used to achieve this look.....I shall be doing a look breakdown on my sister blog. Do keep reading..........................

How to look good in photographs??

(Shardul Navare Photography)

Have you ever looked white in photographs?
Have you ever suffered from photo-malfunctions like looking extremely shiny or oily, darker than usual or anything of that sort?
Have you ever go photo-conscious because your makeup does not make you look good?
Has the camera flash brought out the 'ghost' in you?

If at least one of the answers is YES then you must read this article. Who said that one cannot look amazing in photographs? You do not really have to be a professional makeup artist to look good? Trust me, many makeup artists I know who do some amazing work LIVE, create disasters in photography makeup and then go through all the extra pain of retouching and photoshopping. Working with some really nice photographers who have an eye for some amazing natural looking photography, I can muster some guts to share a few tips that can make anyone look amazing in photographs. This could be beneficial if you are taking selfies, taking pics at events, take pics under flash or in broad daylight or anywhere else. Its a good article to know if you're a blogger, if you are a media professional, a celebrity, a model and mostly if you are that perfectionist human being albeit the gender who wants to look amazing and flawless in photographs without the malfunctions.

I would be highly elated if one could benefit out of this article and please do let me know in the comments whether it was. I would strictly prefer not mentioning any of the brands in this article as everyone has their own choices and brands they love. Its just about using the right products in the right places and that should solve the issue.

Please note that I am including the pictures of my work for better understanding and for better examples since I know what I am doing. Read further to know what you exactly need to be reading......

Review : L'Oreal Infallible 24H Foundation

Finally I can say I'm back to reviewing and buying time for my lovely blog. Foundations are such fun and getting the right foundation is the most tried and tested thing I can ever see or imagine. We are as confused with foundations as we are with our clothes and there isn't one single foundation that can sort out all problems. Thence over a million formulas are available and just like clothes there's something special for some one in foundations too.

Today I am reviewing the L'OReal Infallible 24H Stay Fresh Foundation. Most of them call it 'RENO' but I did not see it mentioned anywhere and I haven't received any PR samples. I purchased mine from Beauty Palace in Crawford Market with my own money and thence writing my own findings and a honest opinion.

So let have a look at whats with this new favorite foundation of mine.............

First of all, I must tell you something about myself and my obsessions over foundation.
  • I am a professional makeup artist and that means I need a new innovative formula that caters to my needs and helps me achieve the best results on my clients. My spectra of clients ranges from bridals to photoshoots and fashion to films which makes it mandatory for me to have products that are not only multi tasking but also good quality and doing what they claim.
  • I have numerous foundations ranging from drugstore to department and I use them for specific makeup jobs which could be from temporary with touch ups to a semi permanent almost an entire day of makeup at a venue. So the products differ all the time.
  • I love liquid foundations. They can be controlled and applied so well and thence I choose formulas that solve the purpose more than seeing their marketing strategies.
  • As a makeup expert and an avid researcher in beauty innovations and formulas, I am on a hunt for products that sort out my problems and needs and give me the best results in whatever I do.
My ideal foundation......
  1. It should be a liquid as a foremost priority as liquids give the most natural finish and I love to worship the skin.
  2. I loveeeeedddd the long lasting demi-matte and almost velvety foundations that do not budge and yet give the most amazing medium coverage. I sometimes use these foundations for concealing purposes as well.
  3. Any formula that is water resistant, long wearing, non comedogenic, non acnegenic, breathable, oil free, hydrating etc etc is my formula of choice.
Seeing some basic fundamentals, lets come back to the review of L'Oreal's smart innovation, the Infallible foundation. Before this product, they did launch another Infallible foundation which I never bought as they only had fair colors and I find it very 'racist' when a foreign developed brand sells fair foundations in India to promote a fairer skin. That's a wrong and a bad concept. But I believe that those foundations were withdrawn from the market and never heard the buzz then. What got me back to L'Oreal is the Magic Nude Liquid Powder foundation since their Tru Match was a complete disaster for me. Now with the launch of the New Infallible 24 H foundation, I am back to the company I deserted once.

  PACKAGING

Its a plain, not so sturdy feeling glass bottle with most minimalist details. As a drug store brand L'Oreal cannot and may not afford fancy packaging as its other luxury companies. It has a square-ish dimension all over and the foundation is dispensed through a pump. The pump is of amazing quality and can be controlled to get the right amount of product.

The leaflet on the back has to be pulled up and out to read the ingredients that are written in the most minuscule writing ever. One fine day they may write so fine that only ants could read what is written. I had to take a magnifying glass to read the ingredients and I shall mention what I read.

FORMULA

L'Oreal has delivered a foundation that is so promising that it seems like a must have. The formulation is a silicone based one which is the reason of the longevity of the product. Luckily the foundation does not dry out so fast being a long wearing one and there is some play time for the product to blend into the face without drying up very fast.

The liquid formula is a creamy textured foundation which does not feel dry on skin, has an amazing blendability and slip, does not drag on the skin, feels nice and creamy on the face and most importantly applies well with whatever the medium of application is - finger, brush and sponge. Yes! It does last really long and especially in the strong and warm camera lights. Since it does not have SPF, there are no greyish-purple tones to the skin and it does not flashback. Instead it photographs as beautifully as a department store foundation and feels extremely professional looking with seamless and flawless finish. They have many many shades for a lot of skin coloring and I am quite impressed by the range of pink, golden and olive tones in the foundations. The only unfortunate thing is that they do not have colors beyond complexions that are MAC NC43.5 and can be a bit of problematic. For these skin colors, they can still use the formula by mixing with a darker color than their regular foundation shade, as this formula promises an extremely long lasting wear.

I agree to the fact that L'Oreal has incorporated Hyaluronic Acid to catch water and hydrate without creating an oily film which is amazing. Another claim which works for me is that its extremely oily skin friendly which means no oil for hours and hours. Its non comedogenic. I did not notice clogged pores or get an immediate breakout with the foundation. It has a pleasant smell and is surprisingly light weight with the over usage of silicones in it. We call it as an air whipped texture.

With a coverage so medium to full and so good, the foundation was amazing enough to hide redness, minimal skin perfections and even under eye circles and sets best with a loose translucent powder. The finish is almost matte with a bit of healthy gleam seen through and one may not need a lot of powder to set it.

Finally I must say that this product is BANG ON!! (I seldom use this word).

COLOR

11 Shades are a lot for a drug store foundation but why not!! This shows that with the price point that one has to pay, they can walk shoulder to shoulder with department brands.
One notable point is that the foundation oxidizes ever so slightly in the day which is why its good enough to buy a shade a little lighter than your skin rather than finding the perfect shade.

******

Here are a few times where I used this foundation on makeup jobs. Since I just have 3 colors and I often work with fairer and olive skin tones, I am able to show you the results I have achieved with 120, 150 and 250 shade nos.

Yulia from Ukraine

I have used a mix of 120 and 150. 150 is more for reverse contouring.

Karen from Switzerland

I used the shade 250 all over with 150 as a highlight. Mixed the two colors for a second layer. Please see the video that follows.

Paula from Brazil

Since she looks so European and is so white, I applied 120 shade and the yellow color took away all the redness from her face.

I shall be doing some individual posts to let you all know how I applied the makeup on these gorgeous ladies.

With L'Oreal Infallible 24 H foundation, I strongly recommend this one to everyone who is in need to find a new foundation just for fun or as a replacement to their current favorite. Just one note that it has 'Methylparaben' which may not work with the ones who have allergies. Please keep that in mind or else the foundation is excellent and I have not seen any flare ups on the sensitive skinned models I have used this foundation on.

Hope you like the review. Please do let me know in the comments section.

Catalogue work

It was indeed fun working with my favorite photographer Munjal Gandhi, beautiful and effervescent model Danielle Pires from Brazil and my dear friend and talented hairstylist Sanky Evrus who spesilizes in medium haircuts for women (read more here). The theme was really amazing and was for designer Natasha Davda who makes some of the most wearable surreal clothes and has a wonderful taste and great palette.

The theme of the shoot which was outdoor was 'daughter of the last VICEROY', I believe Lord Mountbatten. She's a young British girl who's raised by an Indian old lady and learns to dress up in a mixture of two worlds. She's delicate, vibrant and donnes a rosy complexion. Danielle fitted the story so well and can't wait to share the images when they are ready.

BOBBI BROWN in MUMMBBAAAIIII!!!! Store Review and A Little Haul

Bobbi Brown came to the town, riding all the way!!! Finally!!! And this is a stimulus for me to write my beauty blog again. Now its not just Bobbi Brown but so many brands and so many products that needs reviewing that I am thinking of starting afresh and basically trying to share a lot of makeup looks, trends and my favorite products along with reviews which I personally find very mundane and lifeless until the products are used on the eyes.

To all those who may know, Bobbi Brown is an icon. She changed the look of beauty and made products available for all who aspired to look beautiful and radiant. She introduced the concept of 'natural' makeup and with such epoch making products that are like legends, Bobbi is one of the most powerful makeup artists and beauty entrepreneurs in the world. Being a part of Estee Lauder companies, Bobbi Brown has catered to professionals and consumers alike and is considered as one of the most successful makeup artist made brands in the likes of other legends Laura Mercier, Francois Nars, Paula Dorf, Trish McEvoy, Kevyn Aucoin and the recent ones Troy Surratt and Charlotte Tilbury.

Before you make any preconceived notions and opinions, I would like to highlight that I did not get any compensation from Bobbi Brown to write about them and they do not entertain such things. All the opinions however good or bad are my own and I do not owe anything to Bobbi Brown. I have an excellent friend named Vandana Rana in Delhi's store and I am proud that she is a part of such an amazing brand. So kindly refrain from any sorts of opinions. Even the products featured in the post were purchased by me by my own money.

Now follow some honest opinions about the store, my views on the customer service and of course the little haul that I managed to make. Do keep reading............

Secret Fashion and Makeup Tips to Delight You Completely

You don't need to be an expert to have fantastic looking cosmetics. Anyhow, you don't need to invest hours doing it, either. When you have the skill, you'll see exactly how much cosmetics can stress your best gimmicks and conceal those that aren't as positive with just a few tips.

Here are a couple of cosmetics tips that you'll wish you had known a long, long time prior:

Use Blush:
So as to apply blush where it will be most complimenting on you, first focus your face shape. Try different colours, as well as shapes that characterize your cheek bones. The way you apply the blush can emphasize your best peculiarities furthermore relax those that are maybe excessively conspicuous.

Use Eye Stencils:
This flighty beauty tool will help guide you when applying eye liner and shadows, particularly in case you're striving for an additionally bold look. It will likewise help you accomplish an even and adjusted look for both eyes.

Use Highlights:
The situation of highlights is imperative when attempting to make characteristically excellent eye cosmetics. Your lighter hues ought to be connected in the internal corners, the center of the eye, and just under your forehead bone. Apply your lightest hues in the first place, and afterward proceed onward to your darker shades.

Don’t use clumsy mascara:
Let's face it; this happens to each container of mascara over the long haul. The issue is it dries out and afterward begins to structure ugly protuberances. To help keep this, don't pump your mascara attempting to get all the more on your wand; you're fundamentally pumping air into the tube making it dry out considerably faster than usual.
In spite of the fact that mascara ought to be supplanted each 3 to 4 months, just make sure you supplant yours much sooner simply in light of the fact that it dries out so quick and makes undesirable results. Anyway, there's a simple fix for that! Include a drop or two any brand of eye drops into the tube and afterwards rub the wand around inside. The Visine diminishes the mascara fluid, making it apply as though it were a fresh out of the box new tube!

Exfoliate your lips:
Utilize a child toothbrush to peel your lips. To truly take care of business, you can make a custom made lip peel with sugar and coconut oil, or simpler however not as compelling, cover your lips in lip medicine or vaseline before cleaning.

Shape your eyes:
As critical as your shading decisions seem to be, the situation of your shadows and liners is generally as basic; you can make pretty much any shape that you need. With watchful positioning, you can make your eyes seem more extensive, more conspicuous, deeper, and so on.

Illusion of a bigger eye:
If you don't officially own a white make up pencil, this is the right time to purchase it just for this straightforward advice. As opposed to covering your water line with dim eyeliner, utilize a white pencil to make the dream of a bigger eye.

Eyeshadows:
Have you ever obtained an energetic shading of eye shadow that once used makes you look bad. The way to making those hues pop is a white base. Utilize a white eyeliner and spread your whole lot before applying the shading of your decision.

Make your lips look bigger:
Presently, there are a couple of tricks to make your lips bigger, yet for a more sensational impact, don't be reluctant to line your lips only outside of your common line. Trust me you would prefer not to resemble a jokester by over doing it!
