Holiday Romance!

There's something about holidays that charms me and it may not be the sweets and carols and the festive season. It could be Christmas spirit. Black can be very inspiring with its color saturation and you can pull out very dramatic to less muted looks with black.

Today I'm portraiting another romantic side of 'Black'. This is soft diffused and blended black with nuances of purples as it fades out and with hither thither shimmer to create subtle drama.

Christian Dior Fall 2011 was my inspiration for makeup although the drama is lessened and muted.

Let's get on to the look;

FACE

  • Shiseido Dual Balancing Foundation (also used as concealer)
  • Shiseido Luminizing Powder Trio
  • MAC Mineralize blush in Hanging Loose and Gentle
LIPS

Right from plum stained lips to soft glosses one can be creative and add into the drama.

EYES

  • Nars Pro-prime Smudgeproof eyeshadow base (I hate this product and is one of the worst eye primers I have used)
  • NYX Jumbo Pencil in Blackbean traced on upper and lower lids and smoked out with Sigma SS217 brush.
  • Bourjois Extrait 10 Intense eyeshadow in stamp and spread method applied on the entire lid concentrating on the lash line and diffusing into the crease and above.
  • Bourjois Extrait 01 which is blush colored silver sparkle patted randomly on the lid to ignite a silvery spark. Also used a highlighter and in inner corners.
  • MUFE Eyeshadow in no.92 applied above the crease to blend with Black and spread the smoke.
  • Line inner rims with Bourjois Black Clubbing pencil.
  • Coat lashes with 2 coats of MAC Opulash Mascara
More pics

Its all about Holiday Romance.

Hope you enjoyed this look!

Till then,

Marzipan medley

I love Christmas and what sweeter than sweets and holiday chocolates. I ate chocolate, chocolate liqueurs, marzipan, plum cakes with silver frosting and so many more things in these few days to celebrate my true spirit of christmas and my sweet tooth.

This tutorial is inspired from lovely colors of marzipan. I used my BH Cosmetics 88 Tropical Shimmer Palette which I bought from here. These eyeshadows are so incredibly pigmented and come in a vast array of colors, tropical colors in this palette though. These shimmers are so amazing and not using them is a sin LOL.

Lets see what to do........

FACE

  • Clinique Superbalanced Makeup
  • Shiseido Natural Finish Cream Concealer
  • Clinique Blended Face Powder
  • Chanel Tweed Fuchsia to create a pop of pink on the cheeks
LIPS
  • Lancome L'Absolue Rouge in Absolute Rouge applied as lipstain for 'cherry' on the cake look.
EYES
  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance
  • BH Cosmetics 88 Tropical Shimmer palette
  • Clarins Instant Definition Mascara
  • Clinique Quick Liner for eyes in Really Black
I have kept the color vibrant by applying them in color blocks and blending just edges of the block. Luckily the images are self explanatory and shall serve as a purpose for deciphering the look without much discussion.

More images and explanations.

The white triangles are the colors that were used for making this look. I purposely shot this palette on lowest exposure to enable capturing color as the shimmer is to overrated and flash makes things difficult at times.

The look,
I did two looks, one with just mascara and another with false lashes to show you tow different options.

1. With Clarins Instant Definition Mascara reviewed here

After using Uroparis no.53 lashes.

Its Christmas time and holidays begin. More such looks to come on the platter.

Till then,

KKCenterHK Lash Tutorial - At the Fire-place

The lady at KKCenterHK was kind enough to send me these false lashes to experiment and do looks for the blog and I was so overwhelmed when I received my parcel. Unfortunately I could not do a review as I had kept these faux lashes in my second home. At last I found then and with festive season at its peak I managed to conjure a look.

I call this look 'At the Fire place' as a cozy celebration of festive season while sipping Merlot and merry making at the hearth during cold winter. The snow outside and the warmth inside just makes mood to do a smoldering makeup and create an aura of romance and love.

Lets get going,

Some lashes are missing from this palette since I used a couple of them before I could be 100% sure of what I am picturing.

I was sent ES A 14 handmade short to long lashes on request as I wanted eye lashes that look ultra natural and stunning and give a weightless feel.

REVIEW: -

These are 10 pairs of lovely light weight fluttery lashes that add enough body to my naturally thin yet long lashes and look ultra natural. What I liked more was how thin and delicate these faux lashes feel yet how strong they are and certainly re-usable at least 3-4 times. The band or spine is very thin and delicate and can be worn without any liner underneath as it looks quite untraceable.
Verdict: - Fine quality lashes for amateur and professional alike with incredible holding power and soft natural effect.

Now getting towards makeup look 'At the Fire Place'

To create this beautiful holiday look I used,

FACE

  • Clinique Superbalanced makeup
  • Clinique All About Eyes concealer
  • Shiseido Luminizing Powder Trio
  • MAC Mineralize Blush in Warm Soul and Nuance
LIPS
  • MAC Lipglass in Full on Lust!

EYES
  • Nars Pro-prime Smudgeproof eyeshadow base over the entire lid upto brow bone.
  • Chambor Dazzle liner in Black traced on upper lash line and lower inner rims to create pitch dark contrast to coming forth Gold eyeshadow.
  • Bourjois Intense Eyeshadow in Extrait 10 (Mineral black) applied on outer corners and blending into area above natural crease to add depth. Also smoked on lower lid.
  • MAC eyeshadow in Buckwheat blended over midnight black to create the color of wooden logs in the fire place. Blended on inner part of the crease.
  • Girlactik Cosmetics eyeshadow in Satin applied as highlight on brow bone and inner corner of eyes merging it into black.
  • Urban Decay eyeshadow in Half Baked on entire eye lid blending it sidewards and upwards into crease. I used Stamp and Spread technique for this effect.
  • Trace already lined lash line with L'Oreal Superliner in Carbon Black and draw a wing.
  • Curl eyelashes with Shiseido Eyelash curler and apply 2 coats of Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara.
  • Trim and cut KKCenterHK ES A14 lashes according to eye size and apply thin layer of Kryolan Lash glue at spine of each lash. Let the glue get tacky and then place the faux lash at the lash line and stick the edges. For uber natural effect, curl and marry those faux lashes with your natural real lashes.
  • Fill or paint brows with MAC Omege + Brown down eyeshadows.
Some more pics.

You can barely see lash spine as it merges into my real lash line. I must admit that this lashes have been re-used for third time till now and they are as new as they were when opened first.

These lashes are really amazing and look very natural even when pictured in strong harsh daylight with +11/2 exposure of my Canon Ixus 220HS Camera.

And you are ready to sport this smoldering evening look. Hope you enjoyed the tutorial.

Till then,

Disco Queen Vs Cleopatra

Imagine a cross between makeup of a Disco-Queen (who host parties at least here and is quite liberal about her makeup) and Cleopatra (whose dramatic liners have inspired us since centuries) and this is what I got. This is a beautiful look, a bit Arabic looking though but bold enough to let you not go unnoticed.

Lets see how to do this look.

FACE

  • Clarins Instant Smooth Perfect Touch as base for the foundation to stay put longer.
  • Clinique Anti-blemish foundation for matte coverage and no powder.
  • Shiseido Natural Creamy concealer

LIPS
  • Clinique Long last lipgloss SPF 15 in Airy Kiss

EYES

  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance all over the lid
  • I used Too Faced Sweet Dreams palette eyeshadows in Nice Stems (warm golden green), Label Whore (Green and brown duo chrome), Satin Sheets (soft pink pearl) and Teddy Bear (soft matte brown)
  • Highlight the brow bone with 'Satin Sheets' and also in the inner corners.
  • Trace upper lash line with Bourjois Clubbing Liner in Black and blend harsh lines.
  • Softly contour in the crease with 'Teddy 'Bear' and merge into highlight.
  • Apply and blend 'Label whore' on outer corners, crease and then smoke it on the lower lid to add definition.
  • Stamp and spread 'Nice Stems' on upper lid and also apply a bit in the inner corners.
  • With Bourjois Effet Smoky liner in Deep Green trace the inner rims of the lower lid and then extend the liner inwards and outwards as shown in the picture. Fill the gaps with Bourjois Effet Metallise Turquoise pencil and to add glitter use MAC liner in Girl Groove which has nice teal shimmer reflects.
  • Trace Girl groove on the upper lash line.
  • Add on dollops of Clinique High Impact Curling Mascara on upper and lower lashes. Top the tips of lower lashes with MAC Zoomlash mascara in Green is green. This mascara photographs really well but is not 'into-your-face' as seen in photographs.
  • Tame the brows with MAC Brow gel or fill in if required.

Its very simple look to sport and create bold drama. Pair it with cocktail dresses and sky high heels. Btw you can tone it down and not create such an intense effect if you like.......

Hope you enjoyed the tutorial.

Easy on Grey!

Vimi Joshi, Senior Artist at MAC once quoted in her interview in a renowned fashion magazine, that 'Grey' is the most underrated color out there. This time in her MAC chat she mentioned 'Grey' to be 'it' color for fall to pair with bright cherry red glossy lips for this season. And so here's my inspiration on the color.

I took my favorite Too Faced Sweet Dreams palette and concocted four looks for Winter and this is the first one to go. It is simple and easy to do and great to pair with the above mentioned lips.

FACE

  • Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation
  • Shiseido Natural Cream Concealer
  • Clinique Superpowder Double Face Powder
  • Too Faced Sweet Dreams Palette, Chocolate Soleil and Candlelight Glow
  • MAC Mineralize Blush in Gleeful

LIPS
  • Clinique Long last lipstick in Party Red with an icing of Buttershine lipstick in Parisian Red

EYES

  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance all over the lid upto the brow bone and also on the lower lid.
  • I used eyeshadows from Too Faced Sweet Dreams Palette, In the Buff (matte ivory white), Lovey Dovey (Soft taupe brown), Nice Ash (smoldering shimmery grey with blue undertone) and Honeymoon (Ivory shimmer with silver and gold pearl).
  • Dust 'In the buff' over the entire upper lid as a base and also setting the eyeshadow primer.
  • With MAC 219 or Sigma SS219 apply 'Nice Ash' on the outer corners of the upper lid, on crease till the inner corners and lower lid. Blend harsh lines with MAC 234. Its drawing 'stencil' with semi-dark shade.
  • Highlight brow bone and inner corners with 'Honeymoon' and softly dab and blend 'Lovey Dovey' on upper lid diffusing it into the crease.
  • Trace the upper lash line with L'Oreal's Superliner in Carbon Black Gloss to create 70s wing and inner rims of Lower lids with MAC LE eye pencil in Gilded White (for that wide eyed look).
  • Add lashings of Clinique Lash Doubling Mascara to keep eyes soft and sober and let the Lips do the talking. I tamed my brows with MAC Brow Gel.

Its nice to sport this look with LBD or Black Sari or choose stormy colors to compliment the Grey and let Red do stand out.
Hope you like it. Btw this is the first look in the series, so keep reading.

  • MAC Brow Gel
  • For concealer, I used Clinique All about Eyes concealer and for powder I used Clinique Blended Face Powder
