The Guide for Right Decision

I have been receiving mails on friends and readers asking about affordable foundations and I decided to make a small post with some research in the market and getting to test some nice makeup brands. Although I always stated that a foundation must always be branded there are few ones that blew up my mind and made me modify my opinion about foundations.

I love liquid foundations as they have very controlled applications and are very versatile. I would be mentioning liquid foundations in this post only with some hither thither references of other products. Some of favorite mass market foundations that may not put a dent in your pocket are, (I wont be mentioning the prices and leave it upon the judgement of the reader, as they fluctuate and change with time.)

  • Kryolan Supracolor foundation

The foundation of Bollywood, it ranks as one of the most used foundations in the Indian market thanks to it versatility and blendability and true staying powder. Its a industry's best kept secret to create flawless skin with just one product and setting it with eponymous loose powder. I love the palette for pro use but they are also available as small pans for individual purchase. These foundations can be built from sheer to full coverage and due to the oils and petrolatums in them, they last quite long. Fortunately they also have the paraben free formulations that makes me quite comfortable. It may not be good for oily skin due to the presence of mineral oils but it does cover the scars quite well and when used over an oil free primer would do wonders to skin. They have all colors one can dream of so choose wisely. Mostly FS26, FS28, FS24, FS25, FS38 and FS36 flatter Indian complexions.

  • L'Oreal True match foundation

I dont know of anyone who doesnt know this foundation as its that famous. They have always made different versions of this foundation right from those glass bottle ones to really modern packaging of today and also subtle changes in formulas with more color adapting technologies and flattering Indian colors (although they might not have all colors for darker and deeper complexions). Its supposedly oil free with medium coverage and glides seamless on the face thanks to blendable silicones. I havent got any acne with it so it maybe noncomedogenic. Its looks dewy and fresh when applied but needs some powder to control oil which is Ok as it also makes the foundation transfer proof.

  • Max Factor Second Skin foundation

This is a hybrid foundation with some parts coming from inspirations of tinted moisturizers and some part coming from foundations and actually its none of the two literally. The coverage is sheer and light but covers minor flaws and slips very easily on skin. Its very lightweight (comparable to Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua and MAC Face&Body) and feels dewy on skin. It may not be good for oily skin but may look nice over a primer underneath. If you opt for this foundation, I advice using it as a thin layer across face and the spot conceal.

  • Max Factor Xperience foundation

Another lightweight foundation in the market that feels like nothing on. I liked the technology that went behind this foundation because being moderate coverage this foundation really feels light on skin and also dries to a satin finish making it ideal for anyone who wants a dewy glow. For acne prone skin this could be layered over a Salicylic acid based moisturizer and applied in the clean acne free areas of the face and then spot conceal with products like Vichy Dermablend or Kryolan Dermacolor foundations.

  • Chambor foundation stick

The texture of this stick foundation is out of the world. I remember purchasing a stick blush from YSL that had this dewy and liquidy feel and then I checked out the texture of this foundation and it was somewhat the same. It is incredibly light and dewy while applying but dries to a nice semi-matte finish and vert apt for touch ups too. The only concern I have was the hygienic part of application of the product as stick can be harbingers to lots of contaminants due to direct contact with skin. If you are a cleanliness freak like me, you can spray with Isopropyl alcohol at the end of the day, let it dry from sometime and then use it the next day. I could be a good deal for combination skins.

  • Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation
This foundation is a legend. With perfect maintenance of hydration levels, this foundation creates a flawless semi matte canvas that has amazing staying power. Its the most divine foundation ever seen in mass markets and does an amazing job of creating incredible skin. I have nothing negative to say about this foundation.

  • Bourjois Bio detox foundation
A mineral version of foundation without silicones, this can be really difficult to blend and may not be a right option for most of us. I tried it over moisturizer and it went all wrong and funny. Although I don't know how it would go on your skin, I may not recommend this foundation for being not so user friendly.

  • Inglot YSM makeup
This is 'Young Skin Makeup' dewy and sheer to medium coverage foundation with its complimenting compact foundation. They claim to have skin friendly minerals in it and apt for younger teens. I havent used the foundation but the compact and the latter gives an amazing flawless and weightless finish. This is a foundation worth trying to get  a good coverage and some benefits though.

  • Ben Nye Matte foundation
This is my favorite foundation. It comes a small compact like case it being a cream foundation but is oil free and creates a sheer veil of matte color to full blown coverage as decided. I prefer using it with buffer brush from Sigma Makeup as the hair buff this foundation into the skin and give that perfected air brush feel. Its a lovely foundation and the shade spectrum is vast. Its very good for professional usage too.

  • Revlon Photoready foundation
Revlon has always been a mass market wonder and with many earlier foundation blunders, they have managed to create an amazing foundation that is in the likes of actresses like Halle Berry and Jessica Alba. The colors are correcting and the moderate coverage allows one to get photo ready anytime and in any lightings.

  • Revlon Colorstay foundation
The entire 'Colorstay' series is my favorite as they have some cult favorite products.

There are brands like Be:Yu, Etude, VoV cosmetics etc which make some nice foundations too but I havent really used them.
These are some of the latest foundations I have seen and if you are the one sticking with legends from the past, then you must try out,

  • Max Factor Age Renew foundation
  • Bourjois 10hr sleep effect foundation
It is difficult to put claims on which foundations are really good and everyone opines on what they like the best. This was my side though I suggest investigating into that perfect formula that works for you.
