Spring - Summer TRENDS

Fresh looking complexions bathed in the warm cozy sunlight with a bit of windswept cheeks and glowing skin is what everyone aspires for every spring-summer season. Every year almost all brands follow certain trends that are forecasts of certain companies like Pantone and there are innumerable products crowding the market. Since everyone had their trend, I thought of making some trends with Beauty Traveller too.

Simple phrase 'No makeup look' means a lot this season too. So lets see how to prep the skin this spring-summer 2012...

Courtesy :
  • Its easy to say dewy fresh complexions and skin that breathes. Technically it means a semi matte complexion (of course for hot Indian climates) where foundation is used like moisturizer so that it does not cake up a lot. Lets not use a lot of powder this season and keep things at bay.
  • For acne-prone complexions, piling up powder is making it all wrong, matte and messy. What the point of having a shiny lustrous neck under a matte face. Keep it all dewy and yet absorb powder. I suggest using blot papers that do an amazing job of absorbing that excess oil. Since most of us experience acne in summers its better to get back to the acne regimen we once followed and use a Salicylic acid based moisturizer all the time to keep everything at bay. I hope we will hear more of Clinique Anti-blemish solutions makeup.
  • Opt for concealers that are light weight and yet give medium coverage. I am eyeing on Revlon Photoready though they have just 2 colors but my MAC Select Moisturecover is perfect 10.
  • To add translucency to makeup, a pearlized highlighter on the heights of the cheek in a crescent shape upto the brow bone passing from the temples is very flattering. If you have Becca Shimmering Perfector (thanks to Lisa Eldridge) then you dont have to hunt. Otherwise I love my Clarins Instant Light Complexion perfector, YSL Teint Parfait (a favorite amongst makeup artists and celebs) and not to forget MAC Cream color base in Hush or Pearl.
  • Doses of MAC Fix + spray in the entire day is going to be very refreshing. Toning mists are a rage this season as they give that dewiness without looking slick.
  • Talking about complexion, its wrong to forget a primer. This time of the year calls for Makeup Forever's HD Primer in several colors. My favorite is pink and lavender as it brightens up complexion without making it ghostly. Who can resist MAC Prep and Prime or Clarins Instant Smooth Perfect Touch. These are not only award winning and media friendly but also really performing and useful in trying times. Budget buyers should go with L'Oreal primer or maybe the BB cream from Maybelline (not used or tested myself).
  • Cream blushes may not be everyone's cup of tea this spring, but some of the most incredible silicone based formulas would do wonders t o your skin. I am talking about Shiseido Accentuating Sticks as who says makeup has to be brand new to make a trend. They have been very versatile and have done wonders to people's skins for years since launched. I also love Girlactik Cosmetics Cream blushes and not to forget YSL ones too. Cream blushes also look very natural and gives that pinched cheek appearance without under going any trauma.
  • For colors on cheeks I would love a pinky-coral this season. This means layering a soft frosted coral powder blush over a pink cream blush or cheek stainand/or vice versa. I used Bobbi Brown's Shimmer Brick in Nectar over Shiseido Rose flush accentuating stick and it looked quite spring like and nice. Or maybe Shiseido Accentuating stick in Peach flush with MAC Dollymix blush. Another favorite combo is Clinique Blushing blush in Pink love over MAC Creamblend blush in Posey. So many such combinations would look lovely.
  • Bronzers are always talked about but this season I would opt for a golden glowing bronzer instead of the regular ones that tan or contour the skin. Clinique True Bronzer in Sunkissed or Sunswept is what I am looking for.

This season it maybe about getting a perfected complexion that may need some work. Eyes maybe a bit out of focus but not completely ignored.
  • I am loving brighter shimmery pastel colored pencils with a neon edge on the lash lines. This calls for NYX's new retractable pencils in various colors and also some of the gorgeous colors from their liquid liner range. Its not easy to carry this colors so if in doubt, do a double lining by pairing it with your favorite matte black liner underneath.
  • Shimmer washes for eye lids is what looks trendy, easy and perfect. I am in love with colors that have an oceanic touch to them. Talk about soft sparkly lilacs, sky blues, mother of pearls, oysters, shell pinks etc and I am in. Also looking at sea foam taupes and luscious sea weed greens.
  • Emphasize the top lashes keeping the bottom lashes naked this season. This helps carry off those soft washes of shimmers easily. I am eyeing on Benefit They're Real mascara, Edward Bess Bess Lash mascara and Chanel Sublime de Chanel right now!!
  • Grooming brows was never out of fashion so do an effort to tame them.

  • Sheer washes of lipsticks in vivid colors would look lovely. That calls for sheer reds, strawberries, corals, tangerines and poppies. All washed and glossed up.
  • Stay away from harsh penciled lips until its important or needed and make glossy lipsticks your best friends. I am in love with Amplified and Lustre textures of MAC, Estee Lauder's Pure color lipsticks and not to forget Chanel Rouge Coco Shine. Also come in the new range of Max Factor lipsticks that are droolworthy.

  2. Hey neeraj .. the post is very helpful and i must say the page break is a good change ... its easy to open the post now :D :D

I am eying the Clinique Bronzer too ... pls let me know if it is going to suit my skin tone ?? :D :D

    1. was inspired by you and Anamika actually and suggested strongly by this reader Emm...good isnt it...looks like a pro.

Buy that true bronzer from Strawberrynet....go for the lighter color to add luminosity and radiance. Love this product as it subtly sculpts and adds radiance.

  3. Lovely Tips...thanx wud u rate the Bourjois concealors? do u think they wud be a gud buy this season?

    1. if u have read some of my earlier EOTDs where I have used Bourjois Anti cernes pinceau concealer, then you would realise my love for these concealers LOL.Since I finished one tube already I may not buy it again for innovation reasons but its lovely and a must have. I did not like their other concealers though but this one was an instant hit being a dupe of Clinique's airbrush concealer in an affordable range.
Right now I am looking at Revlon's photoready concealer and Shiseido's Natural Finish creamy concealer ( i took Dark one by mistake so might purchase the Medium one now)!
