Maybe its Maybelline!!

When it comes to photography work and lesser budgets I prefer using cosmetics that do good and justice to that budget. What is the point of using an expensive brand when the person does not know or realize the importance of it and pays in peanuts? That is my priority and I hope it is not mistaken by any. As the budget goes higher I use Clinique, MAC, Dior, Chanel, Lancome, Shiseido and Estee Lauder but when the budget gets on the lower spectrum I tend to use Revlon, Bourjois, Max Factor, Oriflame, L'Oreal, Kryolan and Ben Nye. But Maybelline was nowhere until some of my lovely blogger friends came to the call of my help.

Maybelline is one of the brands I have used the least, owing to my previous bad experiences being unhappy about the products that they had. Only one product family from Maybelline that was in my kit were the lipbalms. Nothing else wooed me until 3 days back when I had to decide some stuff for the shoot. While browsing through the brands, I was looking for products that would literally blow my mind, being drugstore brands. Nothing appealed me, not even my favorite brand Bourjois until I came across Maybelline again. Its this time that I was smart and happy enough to make a good sale for the SA there and she was blushing (with that amazing sale I did for her I hope).

SO this post is a recommendation post followed by the haul (though I am not planning to do that as I have swatched and used most of the products I got from there.)............lets have a look!

I was always told about the wonder products Maybelline had but somehow I never got an access to it while I was working. Later on when I started freelancing I needed really pigmented products that did not weigh down the wallet. This is when drug store brands came to help and Maybelline lent a helpful hand. So this is what I picked up from Maybelline and this is what I could recommend for anyone who wants to have a small shopping guide. (Someone may have requested this before).

Note: - I bought it at a certain discount which may not be available everywhere. So please do not consider its pricing on the blog and venture yourself.

DREAM MOUSSE LIQUID FOUNDATION

After Cynthia and many other bloggers raved so much about it, I thought of giving this foundation a chance. And trust me (with minimal shades) this foundation has made it straight into my kit. I like the gel like feel of this foundation and this silicone infused formula which makes the slip of this foundation amazing. The air brushed finish I got from this foundation made me instantly recommend this foundation to all who were at the set that day.
It feels like Nestle Milkmaid on touch and glides into the skin to create a smooth veil of color while blurring minor imperfections and imparting a lovely youthful glow to the face. I found the finish to be semi-matte and a bit hydrated and dewy sort of. I could yet see some oil making its way through the foundation which was easily blotted and the dreamy face was on again.
What I liked about Dream Mousse liquid foundation was;

  • the mousse like gel texture glides amazingly well on the skin
  • it blends like second skin and creates an unbeatable flawless veil of color on the face
  • it helps scatter light and blur imperfections
  • creates a smooth seamless finish
  • has enough play time (before it dries) to buff the foundation into skin
  • can be layered and is buildable without caking or cracking
  • quite cost effective and priced effectively to enable 3-4 foundations in the price of your favorite department store foundation price.
What I did not like was the limitation in coloring and could not cater to very dark colors though I am sure they have a wider choice and spectrum of colors abroad. I got Honey Beige, Nude Beige and Creamy Natural in the beige tones and none of the cooler ones as I prefer warmer tones for the camera.
I must say I did not like the powder that came with it though. Found it too sheer and dry and did not do anything in front of my trustworthy creamy Kryolans.

DREAM TOUCH BLUSH

For pink tinted dewy cheeks I could not find anything close to this blush. Its as soft as whipped cream and goes so well on cheeks. I used my Sigma SS 187 brush to stipple the brush and blend it in round fashion to get a youthful glow in my model. We were both very impressed with the results and pigmentation and just a dot went a long way to create dewy cheeks. Although I just got the pink shade I am sure there is a peachy coral out there too that I did not bother to look at since I have Shiseido to do the job.
The beauty of this blush is that it dries to a dewy finish without moving from the place and feels really luxurious at the price one is paying for this blush.

EYE STUDIO LASTING DRAMA GEL EYE LINER

I shamelessly admit that this liner surpassed the expectations of all the gel liners I have used till today including the expensive ones. Its just perfect while the brush added with it is like a cherry on the cake.
What I liked was;
  • it shows up intensely dark in the camera
  • its consistency allows it to glide easily and give some play time while drawing lines
  • the brush included in the pack is so amazing to draw thick and thin lines and is good quality
  • it is somewhat water and tear resistant
  • it helped me create smokey eyes as it blended without drying midway.
It may come in just 2 colors but I did not want more than those and I just picked up the Black one. Also saw their new 'Swirl' line but I may not pick up any as I don't think I will be purely be able to use individual colors in that duo liner. I would have preferred the colors to be side by side instead of the tricky swirl pattern.

LIP SMOOTH COLOR BLOOM COLOR CHANGING LIP BALM

This product changed my destiny actually. I used it in my first ever photoshoot (one product I picked up a month back actually) and people were oohing and aahing over the effect it gave on the lips. Pink may be very vivid though as it changes from clear into the color according to one's body heat but  the peach one gave a certain grace and dimension to the lips. What I loved was the ease that one can have while using this product and the way it creates the most luscious lips that an expensive lip plumper may not be able to do.

And at the end of the day its one's favorite lip balm....

COLOR SENSATIONAL MOISTURE EXTREME LIP COLOR

Lip Color product

These super pigmented lipsticks are cost effective, highly pigmented with rich textures (provided there is no animal fat in them since I dont know the ingredient list) and give a succulent color to the lips. Since they were on offer of 2+1 free I got 9 lipsticks out of which 7 were these colors. I will soon post them as I have not even touched them and kept them purely for blogging.

I mostly picked up dark berry colors but have been distinctively eyeing their rosy shades which would be in the kit soon. These lipsticks are quite staining and long lasting and do not look cheap on the lips. I preferred using a lip brush for a controlled application though. The colors stayed true and did not bleed and sustained in between a couple of flashes and shoots.

COLORAMA NAIL PAINTS

Nail Color product

These naughty nail paints may be sheer and juicy as a friend and reader Zara warned but they solved the purpose of having a glossy nail around. Though they had vivid shades I picked up a Ruby, Wine and Black shade that did a super cool job while sporting some Indian and Bollywood looks.
Since I was on a tighter budget they did the trick.............

I know there are so many more products out there but these are the few that got me back to Maybelline. I also have the Hypercurl mascara but I shall comment only when I have used it which I haven't done so far.

Good way to go Maybelline!!! Btw do share the lovely stuff you have and also recommend me some products like these. Would love to hear from you!

Till then,

Ciao

  3. I really need to buy myself that foundation! I've been hearing good things about it everywhere. :D Most of my everyday make up is Maybelline, their Hypercurl and Colossal Volum mascaras are amazing, the gel and liquid liner are to die for and I have to buy Colossal Kajal every 2-3 months, I use it that much! :D

  4. I have a love hate relationship with Maybelline, their previous products other than the lipsticks always failed me, but these new launches are really drool worthy, since you too recommended it, i am going to get the gel liners asap...
May i ask you which shades you picked up? I have only My Mahagony from their colorsensational range, intrested in experimenting with some coral and pink shades...
(I have already ordered coral luster from style craze) :)

  5. In terms of nail polishes, Maybelline is way better than Lakme's basic range even though they are priced almost the same. Other than that, Faces has few cremes which come out nicely but since I have been binging on cremes, I bought some great shades from viviana. UT had them for 105 and they are totally worth it.

    1. the coverage is medium! I think it will work for oily skin since it is very rich in silicones....u may need to touch up with some powder later on I guess!

  8. Dr.Neeraj...do u think the foundation will work for very oily skin?? and can u pls suggest any cream blushes for oily skin which do not have any shimmer?

    1. this foundation may work for oily skin though you would need to touch up!
I would not advice cream blushes for oily skin as they disappear and get eaten by the natural oil of the skin. YOu can opt for cheek and lip stains or go for powder blushes. MAC and Shiseido make really high quality fine milled blushes that look very natural and not at all powdery!
