Glamour in Shape - Cleopatra Vs Anarchic makeup

I couldn't think of a name that was apt for a look like this! Although a trial look, this came put as fabulously as I wanted and that why I mustered the strength to put this on the blog. It comes from 2 inspirations. One is the 'anarchy' makeup that was featured in the legendary Kevyn Aucoin's book Making Faces. The other is of course was the most famed Cleopatra and this look happens to be an amalgamation of the two.

This spindle shaped eye is very flattering and can be used to amplify some really mundane days and outfits. Btw I apologize for that little fall out on the nose area. I was too excited to wipe that out.

So lets see how to do this look.............

Its all about getting some shape and doesn't matter what shape it is. You could go like outlined square blocks or draw a spindle like I did. Its my penchant to create almond shaped eyes but trust me, there is no rule for doing such kind of makeup.

Conceal the under eye area and dab some foundation over it so that it looks natural.

Prime the lids with an eyeshadow primer of your choice.

Apply MAC Paint pot in Groundwork for a base. This beautiful soft beige brown base gives a perfect base to sport dramatic makeups as the eyeshadows adhere even better.

Trace a thick line on the upper lid using Estee Lauder Double Wear Pencil in Black Plum. The thicker the line is, the better it will look although see the proportions of your lids and then draw.

Line the middle and outer half of lower lid with NYX Glide on pencil in Jungle Green. This is a bright dramatic emerald shimmer and looks very pretty.

Line the inner corners with Bourjois Clubbing Eye liner in Vert Insomniac. This is a lovely aqua-jade green liner which is very lovely.

Outline the green lines with a black eye liner pencil. You can use a gel liner to make the colors go dark. I prefer not to advice a liquid liner as it can break into pieces later on (do not stay on the lower lids).

Trace the inner rims of lower lids with NYX Retractable pencil in Gypsy Blue.

Before application of the other colors, contour the crease with Makeup Forever eyeshadow in no.132. This is one shade that I really liked as it is warm and yet modifiable from subtle to dramatic.

Draw the desired shape with eye pencil. I used Bourjois Khol and Contour eye pencil in Noir Expert to make a shape. Then fill the insides with MAC pigment in Grape. For creating a 3D effect, I dabbed MAC pigment in Violet on the centre of the lid and on the lash line where I traced the purple liner.

Tightline the upper rims and also the lash line with the black eye pencil. Join the lines at inner and outer corners for a perfect result.

Curl the lashes with eye lash curler and apply Bourjois Beauty'full Volumizing mascara to upper and lower lashes for some amazing volume.
To compliment this dramatic eye, keep the blush soft brown and basic or just sculpt the face with a matte bronzer. For lipstick, apply a soft brown beige color and slick on some gloss.

  • Rimmel 24 hour Lasting foundation - I used shade no 300 SAND
  • Clinique All About Eyes concealer
  • Clinique Blended Face Powder
  • Benefit Hoola Bronzer
  • Shiseido, The Makeup Accentuating Blush in Blazing brown
  • MAC Blush in Gana
  • Rimmel Lasting Lipstick in Birthday Suit (best neutral in the drugstore line that I have seen)
  • Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in place eye pencil in Black Plum
  • Bourjois clubbing liner in Vert Insomniac
  • NYX Glide on liner in Jungle Green
  • Bourjois Khol and contour eye pencil in Noir Expert
  • NYX Retractable liner in Gypsy blue
  • Shiseido Eye lash curler
  • Bourjois Beauty'full Volume Mascara
