Festive Season Looks #4 - New Beetles

This look is inspired from the Fall 2012 fashion shows where brands like Roberto Cavalli and Prabal Gurung we inspired from the wings of beetles and feathers of the birds of paradise. Thanks to the legendary works of  makeup maverick Pat McGrath, Charlotte Tilbury and Val Garland, there are an array of looks using such amazing interplay of duo chrome colors with a metallic tinge.

This version is an adaptation of some of these amazing looks that would be making trends for the entire winter season and you will be amazed to see a lot of looks being featured on Beauty Traveller and some incredible makeup blogs out there.

So lets see how to achieve this look....

I have used the Sweet Dreams Palette from the holiday collection of Too Faced Cosmetics.

Conceal the under eye to look bright and fresh. Patting motions also help facilitate better lymphatic drainage around the eye area and take care of any fluid retention in the eye area.

Conceal the lids to neutralize the color of the lids. The concealer also acts as lovely base for the eyeshadows to stay on.

Line the lash lines with Lancome Le Khol pencil in Black. Also line the inner rims to build the intensity.

Blend the harsh lines and edges to create a lovely smokey haze. This is one thing that I am also incorporating into the bridal makeups that I do. Instead of drawing stark lines across the lids I am creating a more hazy darkness around the lids to create defined yet not harsh eyes.

Blend some of the liner into the crease to gauge the crease shape and this should actually be the stencil. The waxes in the pencil create a lovely satiny lid that I truly adore.

Apply Too Faced eyeshadow in Smolder on the outer corners. This dark navy blue can be a fresher substitute to the conventional black color.

Blend Too Faced eyeshadow in Exclusive Shade in the crease blending it towards the inner crease. This can alter the shape of the eye and make eyes look bigger.

Apply Too Faced eyeshadow in Nice Ash on the upper and lower lids and smoke it out in Smolder eyeshadow to create a subtle gradation and a low light for the shimmering bright eyeshadows.

Apply Too Faced eyeshadow in Label Whore (that the name LOL) on the entire lid. This shimmering duo chrome eyeshadow has million dupes like MAC Blue brown pigment, but I love the way how bright this eyeshadow looks in comparison to other shades. Btw I have done a look like this before too. Please click HERE for the reference.

Apply Label Whore eyeshadow on the lower lids and smoke that out too. I love the brightness it imparts even after being so dark.

Highlight the brow bone with Too Faced eyeshadow in Satin Sheets. Keep the highlighter a bit low key to keep the rest of the eyes looking bedazzling.

In the inner corners of upper and lower lids apply Too Faced eyeshadow in Nice Stems. This really helps open up the eyes.

Curl the lashes with Shiseido eyelash curler and apply Lancome Cils Booster mascara primer for amplifying the volume of the lashes. Tame the brows with MAC Dark Edge eyeshadow.

Apply 2-3 coats of Lancome Hypnose Precious cells mascara in black to create lovely spidery lashes.

This is the final look. To make it even more bolder you can opt for false lashes which I have been lazy in doing. The longer the lashes the more dramatic this makeup would look. Couple it with a soft peachy pink blush and really soft glazed lips. For a bolder statement you can go darker with lips and keep the blush only as a contour. Dark colors look good for Winters and leave no fear to sport them.

    1. This answer has been suggested by artists and I tried it out too. Firstly ur under eye shouldn't be oily and secured with some kind of powder. Secondly if u have sparse lashes wiggle the mascara wand vertically to load the product. Opt for mascaras with thinner wands.and be ready with a cotton bud to clean off the excess and the goof ups. Hope this works for u.
