Review : Guerlain Rouge G De Guerlain Lipstick in GALA

When luxury meets innovation and practicality, a product is created that has a heft price but worth each and every penny paid for. Presenting the award winning Guerlain Rouge G De Guerlain lipsticks which are gorgeous formulas, splendid colors and moreover come with a compact case that has a mirror that pops open every time you desire to apply the lipstick.

I got 6 shades viz, Grenade, Gwen, Gala, Galia, Geisha and a Le Brillant shade named Bridget. Shall be reviewing them soon except Bridget as it already got used. They are all 3.5 g and come in a same format of a compact case with mirror and lipstick inside. Most of them are reds and hues of reds as these were the colors I was lacking in my kit and what would be better than Guerlain to blabber about. The thought, the price and the lipstick may make these colors only restricted to blogging for few months and then I would muster the courage to move on and use them in my work vanity case. I wish I had the finances to pick up all the shades as each and every shade is drool worthy.
Today I will be reviewing the shade named 'GALA'. Please note that subsequent posts that follow will have only a brief review of the lipstick and would not involve any notations on packaging and all the other brouhaha. I generally do not review products that are common and even after buying a lot of makeup stuff very few like these make up into the reviews. In case you would want me to review a lot more stuff that I get please do comment about it (its quite motivating and inspirational you know).

So lets know more about the Rouge G..............

Sephora has some lovely information to share;

What it is:
A shimmering, ruby-powder lipstick tucked inside a chic, Parisian case.

What it does:
Guerlain Rouge G de Guerlain Jewel Lipstick Compact contains a ruby-powder formula that interacts with the light and creates a jaw-dropping pout of perfection. At first glaze, lips will be left defined, smoothed, plumped, and hydrated.

What else you need to know:
Tucked in a compact that marries beauty with high design, with one click, you will have a luminous lipstick and mirror at your fingertips. Designed by Lorenz Bäumer, the most talented jeweler from the Place Vendôme in Paris, it is the ultimate accessory of mystery and seduction.

PACKAGING

The lipstick case is a heavy, hefty steel case which reminds me of a Chinese Feng Shui boat. Its quite heavy compared to any other brand lipstick and can occupy a lot of space in the kit. As a I said heavy spells luxury, this is no different. The 'G' imprinted knob is like a lock which open opened leads to the lipstick bullet and also facilitates opening of the flip open mirror. The idea behind this packaging was to enable a woman (especially working woman who could afford Guerlain) to have a mirror handy for lipstick application and not search or be bothered by bathroom mirrors.

FORMULA

This long lasting lipstick is creamy, satiny and moisturizing to the lips. Thanks to the hyaluronic acid beads that swell and make the lips looks luscious and hydrated. The lipsticks are also enriched with mango butter that is moisturizing and a panacea for chapped lips. Also enriched with vitamins and minerals this lipstick is more than just a color and also helps in lip treatment. Does not have a sunscreen though. They have a lovely floral perfume and I could smell violets and a bit of sandalwood too (each has their own olfactory perception). The scent is quite pleasing and does not linger for long.

The lipstick bullet is quite strong and sturdy for the moisturizing properties it has and looks like Guerlain has spent quite a quality time in manufacturing each and every gem like this. What I loved is, each lipstick contains ruby powders that give an incredible dimension to the lipstick when applied and a vibrant shine without going over the top or looking glittery. These fine powders take away the mattifying effect and impart a luxurious shine on the lips.

COLOR

Gala is a bright cherry red lipstick with blue undertones and subtle red shimmer that reflects light beautifully when applied. The shimmer is not very conspicuous but does make the lips appear soft and luscious. Gala is quite long wearing (tried on mummy and it stayed for 5 hrs through eating et al) and does stain the lips red as it did stain the back of my hand after I cleaned the swatch.

I love blue based reds that make the color pop on yellow toned complexions and also brighten and whiten the teeth optically. Gala looks super rich and lovely and the subtle shimmer sets it apart from the generic formulas available in the market.

APPLICATION

  • Its better to apply the shade from the case directly but since its a bright color that needs precision one could also use a lip brush. I recommend the newly purchase Clarins lip brush as its quite thin and would cover the nooks and corners.
  • One coat is enough to give full coverage so it may not seem necessary to apply several coats of this lipstick until and unless you are Marilyn Monroe of 21st Century.
  • For precise application I suggest using a lip liner and for me, the strongest contenders are Estee Lauder Double Wear Lip Pencil in Apple Cordial and Bourjois Lip pencil in Rouge Soyeux.
  • On first application itself, the lips look plumped and soft. Lip lines are not accentuated with the lipstick color and thanks to those hyaluronic acid beads one can see miracles happening.
This lipstick is quite iconic for the color it has and indeed gorgeous for the formula and the wear. You can purchase it from Guerlain counters in selected department stores for INR 2025 and although expensive its worth the splurge as you would be definitely turning faces at work.
