Review : Maybelline Super Stay 14 HR lipsticks

I must proclaim that I was one of the first ones to know and to have bought the lipstick the day they launched it in the stores. In fact I did share a small haul with YSL quads a few days back. Since I was so busy with work and makeup jobs I could not make a post of this, so sincere apologies for making it now. In fact I have used the lipsticks in my bridal posts as well.

I was very intrigued by the 14 Hr claim Maybelline makes and with likes from mavericks like Lisa Eldridge thought of getting some dramatic colors to adorn my kit. I find them really nice and pretty and all the six colors I got are my favorites. Shall be buying all the 14-16 shades they have launched over time as I would need them that often.

I got some lovely shades that really caught my eye. In this picture you see;
  1. Keep Me Coral
  2. Lasting Chestnut
  3. Ultimate Blush

In this picture are;
  1. Eternal Rose
  2. Stay with me coral
  3. Non stop Red
These lipsticks have been incessantly and profoundly reviewed on many many many blogs so let me keep the post short and sweet (hopefully). I will be giving a small explanation of each shade that I have...so keep reading........

ETERNAL ROSE

This is beautiful rosy bright pink with a bit of warmth which can be only seen in the tube. On application this is a beautiful bright pink that looks incredibly flattering and matches cooler tones on eyes. I fell in love with this color and found it better for Indian skin tones as it does not translate as too cool. It does have a sheen on swatching but on lips it looks quite satiny matte which is what I like compared to dry mattes.

KEEP ME CORAL

This is one of the most gorgeous natural looking corals I have ever seen. Its bright with a pop of color but can be sheered out as required to create amazing lips. It has hints of gold flecks which make it appear a little glossy on application. The shimmer can be well translated and seen on camera flash so it is there. This color is so apt for the beaches and summers while sipping fruit punch.

LASTING CHESTNUT

This is a medium chocolate brown with a hint of purple tone in the color. This is quite dark on application and can be paired with a deep smokey eye which looks amazing a la Hollywood. It has almost a velvety finish and I would suggest applying some gloss to make it look even more sumptuous.

NON STOP RED

This is like a pret, ready to wear answer for MAC's Ruby woo. Its a fire engine red and the most beautiful finish ever. Semi matte makes the color playful and I could see hints of pink in the red on application.

STAY WITH ME CORAL

This is a pink with a coral/orange nuances. This may swatch closest to Eternal Rose but on application looks completely different. On warmer tones, the coral seems to be prominent while cooler tones make the pink pop out better. The texture is quite smooth and buttery.

This is one of 3 shimmery finish shades in the lot. I love the way it looks quite frosted in the bullet and has a chrome sort of finish, almost like a foiled effect on the lips since the texture is drier. I have not used it individually and always mixed with one of the colors to add accents.

SWATCHES

SWATCHES

What I feel about Maybelline Superstay 14 HR lipsticks?
  1. They have incredible shades and I am buying the darker ones soon.
  2. They can be quite drying on the lips and you can feel the lipstick settling and enveloping the lips to create a veil of long lasting color. Yet they glide smoothly on the lips and are intensely pigmented.
  3. The 14 Hr claim is a bit controversial given the texture of the lipstick and everything. It does last for 8 Hrs though and that is OK with the way people hog on food after applying the lipstick.
These colors are quite flamboyant and look pretty on all provided you crack the right color. Just a lip balm underneath and on exfoliated lips could do a better job.

 Hope you liked the review.

Till then,

Ciao
