Mid 2013 - Best of 5 - HIGHLIGHTERS

This post was always the next to come. Btw for all who are a bit put off with the fact that I am doing a lot of department brands, I shall have a post entirely on the best deals and best buys of drugstore brands so stay tuned.

Makeup is all about shades and lights. And this post shall talk about 'lights'..........that iridescent glow, that luminosity and everything ever. Who doesn't like a soft highlight? It gives an illusion of a healthy lustrous skin as the light bounces back and creates that ethereal dewiness....thats highlighting. So here are some of my favorite highlighters..........btw for me the words 'illuminator', 'highlighter', 'glow', 'iridescence', 'sparkle' sound synonymous...its just the branding and marketing strategies..Its so difficult to put the best five...

GUERLAIN METEORITES PRESSED POWDER IN CRUEL GARDENIA

Ladies sometimes its better not to cry over spilled milk oops spilled highlighter. Till today, this is the best highlighter I have ever seen and that was ever made. The dupes in Chanels, Lancome's and MAC's couldn't tarnish the glory of this product and I am the one who boasts to have one of it. Owning Cruel Gardenia is like owning a diamond as this is that rare breed of highlighter that enlightens the earth just once...So those who have it please dance and love yourself even more. This is that perfect golden pink champagne highlighting powder which is so finely milled that it literally goes on as a cream highlighter. Plus it stays really long and pulls the whole look together....what more could I say?

NARS ORGASM ILLUMINATOR

I call this and of course 'Copacabana' as the unbiased kings of liquid highlighters. Use it on its own or mix it with your favorite foundation, these do create that picture perfect illusion of healthy skin. And glide so well that they almost look like a part of skin....

ESTEE LAUDER PURE COLOR ILLUMINATING POWDER GELEE IN MODERN MERCURY

Call it a hybrid, call it a tri-brid....this is a cream, gel and powder highlighter all in one and one of the most amazing creations of Tom Pecheux...they come in several editions but the Modern Mercury one is a winner since its that perfect champagne glow you ever wanted.....and alas another LE to feel bad about...

BENEFIT HIGH BEAM

This was made for the stars of Oscars...its such a cult favorite that its present in each and every well known makeup artist's bag...How did it go there? Coz no one made such a perfect looking gel like liquid highlighter. There is a perfect balance of pink and pearl and the texture is so fluidy that it goes on perfectly as a highlighter when used strategically or imparts an all over glow....JLo anyone?

DIOR STAR SHIMMER POWDER IN ROSE DIAMOND

This is another age old cult classic product and the balance of all the colors creates the most amazing harmony of a highlighter. Is this better than Bobbi Brown's Shimmer Brick? I feel YES as it does all and still blends so beautifully on the skin.

So what are your favorite highlighters? Do let me know in the comments section.

Till then,

Ciao

  1. I'm droooooling over your Guerlain one. It looks so pretty. Would be a shame to swipe the brush in it :) The Estée Lauder gelee looks interesting for summers.
I have Dior amber diamond, it's nice but accentuates my pores. Also have all of the bemefit ones. My absolute favorite from them is wattsup! Give it a try sometime.
    Great post!

  4. @neeraj: I actually did just that last night. Used amber diamond as an eyeshadow ( which looked fab by the way) and used benefits wattsup to highlight the rest of my face. Will let u know how amber diamond + porefessional works for me.

    1. Although my Amber Diamond got tattered as the case fell, I still used the ivory gold as a highlight for brow bone and inner corners for a deep dark smokey eye...looks scintillating and way better than some of the famed mac highlighters.
