When Purple Went Coppery.....

This is a look I did for one of my amazing celeb clients and it went so different and so well that I thought of making a post out of it. I have a big penchant for purple eyeshadows and they are the ones who rule a big share of my makeup kingdom. The uniqueness of a purple especially a bright purple is that it adds a touch of freshness to the color of the eyes. Brown eyes are most benefited as purple contrasts with the yellow flecks in the iris and makes them stand out.

Since 'gold' is actually a shiny yellow, its contrasting to the purple color and this harmony generally brings out the best from both the colors instead of neutralizing them. Other complimentary color harmonies of green-red and orange-blue do not come so well compared to the yellow-purple harmony, which is why I always like this combo.

Of late, I have been bitten by the shimmer bug and the effects are going to stay for a while. I simply love the way shimmers bounce light and give that soft focus feeling to the eyes which a harsh matte cannot do. And since the makeup I do totally is based on occasions and lighting, I prefer the shimmers to do their job better and add a dreamy touch to the look. (And that's why I get hired for makeup jobs too...LOL).

Although I used different products there, I am using my lovely Urban Decay Vice Palette to do this simple and beautifully radiant look. Lets see how to do it though.........

From the above palette, I have used Echo Beach, Vice, Rapture and Pennylane.

Begin with concealing the under eyes and securing all with powder. Kindly pardon me for being really tired and if my eyes show that weariness.

Prime the lids with your favorite eyeshadow primer to make the eyeshadows long lasting. I have used UD Primer Potion for securing the eye makeup.

Apply with a large fluffy brush, Echo Beach eyeshadow as a highlight. It should not look stark and just a diffused color.

Apply a plum colored eye pencil like Bourjois Khol and Contour pencil in Prune on the upper lash line.

Smudge and diffuse the liner before it sets. These liners have a play time of 60 sec after which they set and lock up on the eye lid. The eyeshadow primer creates a smooth base for the eye pencils to glide in a better manner.

Apply Vice eyeshadow on the entire crease and in the outer corners and blend it all upwards and outwards. The more you diffuse the better the smokey effect that you get.

Apply Rapture eyeshadow on the outer corners and blend it into the creases. Also slightly extend the eyeshadow over the lash line and eye pencil.

Apply Pennylane in the inner corners and the middle half of the lid. Softly blend the golden orange into the purple keeping in mind that there's no over blending.

On the lower lids, apply Pennylane in the inner rims, Vice on the middle of the lid and Rapture on the outer corners.

Apply Bourjois Clubbing liner in Golden Dress in the inner rims. This gold has a touch of bronze which looks amazing.

With a brush dampened in or made wet with Illamasque Gel Sealer, apply MAC Pro Pigment in Copper on the middle of the lid to create this amazing metallic foiled effect.

Tame the brows. Curl the lashes with MAC eye lash curler and apply 3-4 coats of Bourjois Volume Glamour Max Definition mascara in Black. The big wand coats every lash beautifully and then defines and amplifies them. For a fanned out effect I prefer to divide the upper lashes into three segments. The inner segment lashes are drawn in the direction towards the nose. The middle segment is in the direction facing the front. While the outer segment lashes are in the direction towards the ears. This creates the perfect fanned out effect.

Pair a makeup like this with a bronzed defined cheeks with a touch of pink and go with a rosy plum toned lipstick to finish the look.
