Vibrant Smokes : YSL Pure Chromatics Eyeshadow Palette no.06

Every time I do a tutorial I feel its the best one till today..Do you also feel so?
Well for this one...I really had to struggle. The eyeshadow quad from YSL Pure Chromatics is genius but trying to procure it was one of the most difficult and time consuming tasks. Sometimes good things do take time to come and this one really did.

I am not doing a review per se and just incorporating the colors in the tutorial. Although this palette can be used Wet or Dry, I think it works better when its dry for me.

The colors of this palette blend so well with each other that they almost look like a glass painting with the sun shining over...Very poetic...
When used dry these eyeshadows give that Enid Blyton Pixie Dust like effect and suddenly metamorphose into a highly reflective metallic foil when used wet. I can imagine a technology like this although there are very few launches in India right now. When compared with Estee Lauder Cyber Metallic eyeshadows, the YSL ones turn out to be plush and richer.

Anyways..lets see how to do this look....(there is a small review in this tutorial)

Encased in this beautiful, rich, luxurious golden casing comes the YSL Pure Chromatics Eyeshadow Quad no.06 (I purchased for 2300 INR although the pricing may vary now) and contains some of the most alluring colors that suit the Indian complexions.

The colors described are :-
  • Mossy Green
  • Tea Rose Pink
  • Soft Gold
  • Dark Purple
This is a perfect quad for a lot many occasions. I have done the first ever look using these colors (all dry) and shall be doing more version and intermixing in the forthcoming posts.

To those who may not know, all the YSL Pure Chromatics eyeshadow palettes are hand made. A solution with water as the solvent is poured into plastic troughs and kept for drying. After drying the pigments are hand pressed and put into the packaging. This makes the colors rich and vibrant and since water being an integral part of the manufacturing process, the pigments adhere better to water and glide easily.

Lets get to the tutorial.

Begin with concealing the under eyes to brighten up. For a fuller coverage and better photography I have used Kryolan Derma color D5 as a base and then dabbed Clinique All About Eyes concealer over it. Have set it with a minuscle amount of loose powder.

Prime the lids with Urban Decay Primer Potion and tame the brows using MAC Brow Gel and Urban Decay eyeshadow in Backdoor.

Trace the upper lash line in Urban Decay 24x7 Pencil in Perversion and smudge. Retrace the line for a darker color amidst a black smokey haze.

Apply the 'Dark Purple' color on the lash line, outer corners and the outer crease. I have used it dry.

Blend it all with MAC 217. You can see a metallic sheen on the purple shadow when it comes out of the black base. This creates the dreamy effect.

With Shisiedo Small Eyeshadow brush, I have sharply cut the crease with the 'Mossy Green' eyeshadow to create a definition for the lids. Then blended it up towards the brow bone with the same brush.

As far as the lower lid is concerned, apply the 'Dark Purple' on the outer corners and the 'Mossy Green' on the entire middle and inner half of the lower lid.

With a large Real Techniques Dome Shaped Shadow Brush I applied a 'Tea Rose Pink' all over the lid, blending it side ways. Then with my fingers I patted some more on the centre of the lid. This creates a lovely silvery sheen on the centre of the lid and helps create a 3D effect.

Highlight the inner corners and the brow bone with 'Soft Gold' eyeshadow.

Line the inner rims of the lower lids with Bourjois Clubbing Eye Pencil in Purple Nights.

Curl the lashes with MAC eye lash curler and finish with dollops of YSL Faux Cils Mascara in Noir Radical.

To complete this look, use a soft bronze toned blush like Chanel Tweed Blush in Tweed Ambre and a lovely pink-gold highlight. Keep rest of the face really muted and go with a slick of pink gloss on the lips (over a lip balm).
