Review : MAC Lipsticks in Taupe and Mehr

Its better late than never to review some cult products. I have not reviewed MAC because its one of the most common reviews ever, but then I felt the need to express my opinions as I was always asked about what and how MAC is.

I have always had MAC Lipsticks in the most wrong formulations ever. But for my brides I have started using really nice matte formulas which are very very pigmented and stay true to the color. I have also learnt that 'Amplified' formulas are very creamy and good for brides and those will soon be getting added in my collection. Meanwhile lets have a look at these 2 amazing lipsticks..

MEHR

Packaging

It comes in a typical black bullet packaging MAC is known for. Its quite a sturdy lovely case and the conical shape helps the lipsticks always be upright. If you may have realized that the lipsticks which have rectangular bases, can be kept down turned and the heat seems to melt them. This wont happen with MAC lipsticks (hopefully).

Formula

The lipstick is completely matte formulation with not even a smidgen of shine or shimmer. It does feel soft on the lips but there is not satiny sheen to the lipstick. The formula is densely pigmented, very opaque on application (2-3 coats is what I generally do) and stays for good 3-4 hrs. It does not accentuate the lip lines which I am feel I am blessed with. Like other MAC lipsticks, Mehr has a lingering Vanilla scent which vanishes on application.

Color

Mehr is a medium rosy brown with a color leaning towards neutrals. It does have a certain coolness that would clash with a lot of medium and dark warm undertones but then its a lipstick by choice. As I remember, Mehr was a part of the Mickey Contractor collection and was well received to be a part of the permanent line.

TAUPE

Packaging

The classic MAC bullet which is quite handy to carry and does not open in the kit. This is quite ergonomically designed for makeup artist's usage. Taupe is one of the cult classics of MAC. Its a shade almost everyone has and if you dont, then this is a shade for you to try.

Formula

This is a matte lipstick and sticks to being really matte. It has a nice creamy texture though unlike Rubywoo which does not tug or pull and glides smoothly when applied directly from the bullet or with a lip brush. It has this typical MAC Vanilla scent to it which reminds me of warm aromatherapy candles.

Color

This according to me is a medium brown with red and taupe undertones. This is not a taupe that we know of (when it comes to eyeshadows) and luckily its not as the real taupe would translate badly and ridiculously on the lips. The color is flesh toned and really amazing when paired with smokey eyes or just as a regular office color

Swatches

PRICE AND AVAILABILITY

It is available at regular MAC and MAC Pro stores for the price of 990 INR and their prices to increase with time. Availability is questionable as these are quite hot selling shades.

Hope you liked the lipsticks? What are your MAC favorites? Let me know in the comments.

Till then,

Ciao
