Review : Shiseido Ibuki Starter Kit - Quick Review

Novel approaches in Skin care and some groundbreaking technologies is what I look at when 'Shiseido' comes to mind. Whether its their high quality skin care or their extremely exuberant makeup range, there is something quirky and unique about Shiseido. When their 'Ibuki' range entered the Indian market silently, I had hopes of finding something very interesting and something unique in their approach towards skin care. Who said that the possibilities in skin care innovation have stopped? Japanese people don't feel so and they are not afraid to share their ideas and experiences with the rest of the world.

So what's Ibuki all about? Ibuki means 'breath' in Japanese. This is an anti-ageing line targeted at 20-30 yrs age women (and men too) {lets call them 20-30 yrs humans} and is made to ward off the signs of environmental aggressors, reinforce the skin's protective lipid barrier and 'teach the cells to retain their shape and resist damage', thus making the skin look healthy and supple. I would not understand what 'imperfections' they are targeting but surely they make the skin feel supple and resilient. Do not forget to read Paula's review HERE. But let not the opinions affect your decisions as these are personal opinions of one particular person and should not affect others. Remember Knowledge Vs Propaganda

I wanted to start with a basic skin care regimen to see whether it suits me and since it does I thought of writing about it. Lets have a look.............

I have always loved innovative skin care, may it be La Prairie or Clarins or lately Lancome and Shiseido. and the list continues (Sisley and Guerlain in the wish list). I purchased this Shiseido Ibuki Starter kit (1800 INR from Palladium Mall) which has a gentle cleanser, softening concentrate and refining moisturizer. From the looks of it, they have made a starter kit for combination/oily skin since the products are all light weight and hydrating rather than heavily moisturizing ones.

The main ingredients in the IBUKI line are
  1. Laminum Album flower - hydrates
  2. Citrus Junos Seed Extract - brightening the skin and helping repair and regenerate collagen
  3. Trehalose and Glycerin for Moisturizing
  4. Phyto Resist complex
  5. Peony root extract - to bring about evenness in the skin tone
  6. Witch Hazel - toning properties. I am not aware of them having any power antioxidants.
Some of these ingredients are very common to Shiseido's other ranges too. Shiseido also claims that Ibuki skin care help prevent and repair environmental damage and let the skin cells learn to keep their shape intact (helping collagen regeneration and repair). The products have softening benefits, plump up the skin and hold moisture really well. This is what I noticed instantaneously.

What I feel?

Like most of Shiseido's foaming cleansers, this one did an amazing job in removing all the oil and grime from my skin along with slight traces of foundation that I had applied during the day. Skin felt clean and fresh. I loved the mild floral fragrance too. These cleansers are very comforting for normal to combination skins and I find them gentle and effective and so did this one.

Softening Concentrate
What it is: A deep-infusion formula that delivers powerful ingredients into the skin for a softer, smoother feel.

What I feel?

I love softeners. They do not feel as harsh as astringents even though they have alcohol in them. The feeling is fresh and nice. Its not a runny liquid but quite viscous so that it can be applied with palms too. I have never liked the idea of greasiness on the skin so this worked very well with me.

What it is formulated to do: This refining moisturizer renews the appearance of the skin’s surface, creating an incredibly smooth, uniform texture, while keeping skin hydrated all day long. Red and gold soft reflecting powder particles give the complexion an instant luminosity for a healthy glow.

What I feel?

This is an incredibly light moisturizer and perfect for a combination skin of mine. Although I felt the need of an extra moisturizer on my cheek areas (dry winters) I resisted the urge so that I could gauge the results. While the moisturizer was on, I did not feel the skin tugging or feeling dry. The face felt soft and supple and there was noticeable radiance (I always had good skin since 18 yrs of my age so I cannot really comment on correction of unevenness).

VERDICT

Basic skin care regimen. Good for a starter and newbie. I loved the way the product perform and reserve my comments on their effectiveness as I have not tried the products for the longest. Skin does feel radiant and supple and I could attribute the glow to a drop of Lancome Dreamtone added in the range too. Since the skin care products also target sensitive skins I think this should be a good one to try out. I am happy as long as my skin feels hydrated and soft. The Refining Moisturizer seems to be an amazing makeup base too.

Do have a look at the Shiseido Ibuki line at your nearest Shiseido counter and do try out this trial pack to see whether the skin care products suit you. I am buying the cleanser and softener for sure.

Have you tried Ibuki? If yes, then how did you feel? Do let me know in the comments.

Till then,

Ciao
